Claire Macdonald
Claire, Lady Macdonald OBE is a Scottish cookery writer and former hotelier. Biography Claire Macdonald is one of three daughters of Captain Thomas Noel Catlow CBE DL RN and his wife Jean (née Nuttall), and lived as a child in Thurland Castle in Lancashire. In 1969 she married Godfrey Macdonald, who the following year, on the death of his father, became the 8th Baron Macdonald and High Chief of Clan Donald. Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Recommendations for appointments to the Order of the British Empire were originally made on the nomination of the United Kingdom, the self-governing Dominions of the Empire (later Commonwealth) and the Viceroy of India. Royal Highland And Agricultural Society Of Scotland
The Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS) was founded in Edinburgh in 1784 as the Highland Society of Edinburgh. The Society had its root in 1723 when the Society of Improvers of the Knowledge of Agriculture in Scotland was created in Edinburgh.Scottish Garden Buildings by Tim Buxbaum p.15 It was remodelled and renamed in 1784 largely in reaction to the subsistence crises of 1782/3 when many of the estates in the highlands and islands of Scotland were not producing enough food to feed tenants. The National Farmers' Union of Scotland is an organisation that promotes and protects the interests of the country's farming industry. Isleornsay
Isleornsay (Scottish Gaelic: Eilean Iarmain) is a village lying off the main Armadale to Sleat road (the A851) on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. It overlooks, but is not upon, the island of Ornsay. The island itself shelters one of the best natural harbours in southern Skye. The location was exploited from the 18th century or earlier by the MacDonalds who owned this part of Skye.
