Cizre District
Cizre District is a district of the Şırnak Province of Turkey. The seat of the district is the town of Cizre and the population was 155,182 in 2021. Cizre
Cizre (; ar, جَزِيْرَة ٱبْن عُمَر, Jazīrat Ibn ʿUmar, or ''Madinat al-Jazira'', he, גזירא, Gzira, ku, Cizîr, ''Cizîra Botan'', or ''Cizîre'', syr, ܓܙܪܬܐ ܕܒܪ ܥܘܡܪ, Gāzartā,) is a city in the Cizre District of Şırnak Province in Turkey. It is located on the river Tigris by the Syria–Turkey border and close to the Iraq–Turkey border. Cizre is in the historical region of Upper Mesopotamia and the cultural region of Turkish Kurdistan. The city had a population of 130,916 in 2021. Cizre was founded as Jazirat Ibn ʿUmar in the 9th century by Taghlib#Abbasid period, al-Hasan ibn Umar, List of rulers of Mosul, Emir of Mosul, on a manmade island in the Tigris. Kocapınar, Cizre
Kocapınar (, syr, ‘Amīrīn) is a village in the Cizre District of Şırnak Province in Turkey. The village is populated by Kurds of the Amara and Meman tribes and had a population of 806 in 2021. History ‘Amīrīn (today called Kocapınar) was historically inhabited by Syriac Orthodox and Chaldean Catholic Assyrians, of whom the latter had formerly adhered to the Church of the East. The priest and monk Gīwārgīs of ‘Amīrīn is attested at the Church of the East Monastery of Mār Aḥḥā the Egyptian in 1540. By the time of the Sayfo, 300 people inhabited the village according to Agha Petros, including 250 Syriac Orthodox Christians and some Chaldean Catholic families.
