Civil Will–Green Party
The Civil Will–Green Party ( mn, Иргэний Зориг–Ногоон Нам, ''Irgenii Zorig–Nogoon Nam'') is a green liberal political party in Mongolia. Civil Will Party Civil Will Party was established on March 9, 2000, with Sanjaasürengiin Oyuun as chairwoman and E. Narmandakh as general secretary. The party's name is a reference to the name of S.Oyun's murdered brother Sanjaasürengiin Zorig, one of the leaders of the 1990 democratic movement. In the 2000 legislative election, the Civil Will Party entered into a coalition with the Green Party, and won a seat in the State Great Khural. Before the 2008 legislative election, the Mongolian National Unity Party ( mn, Монголын Үндэсний Эв Нэгдлийн Нам) merged with the Civil Will Party. In the ensuing elections on June 29, 2008, the party won one of the 76 seats in Mongolia's parliament, while receiving 1.97% of the popular vote. A green party is a formally organized political party based on the principles of green politics, such as social justice, environmentalism and nonviolence. 2012 Mongolian Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in Mongolia on 28 June 2012 to elect 76 members of the State Great Khural. Also held during the parliamentary elections was the Ulaanbaatar city council election, the first time both have been held at the same time. For the first time, the election used vote counting machines by new legislative election laws to make the election fair. Electoral system A new legislative election law introduced the status of domestic election observers who are nominated by civil society organisations. Parties had to announce 48 candidates for constituency seats and 28 candidates for proportional allocation. Among the changes was also a quota of 20% of seats reserved for women. 2008 Mongolian Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in Mongolia on 29 June 2008. A total of 356 candidates ran for the 76 seats in the State Great Khural. According to official results published on 14 July, at least 39 seats were won by the ruling Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party (MPRP), and at least 25 seats by the main opposition party, the Democrats (DP). Ten seats remained subject to possible recounts. Electoral system Members of the State Great Khural were elected from multi-seat constituencies in a Plurality-at-large system, with two to four seats per aimag or (in Ulaanbaatar) düüreg. Previous elections had single-seat constituencies, and the new, more complicated voting system was reported to have led to a delay in vote counting. Sanjaasürengiin Zorig
Sanjaasürengiin Zorig ( mn, Санжаасүрэнгийн Зориг; 20 April 1962 – 2 October 1998) was a prominent Mongolian politician and leader of the country's 1990 democratic revolution. His supporters called him the "Golden Magpie of Democracy" ( mn, Ардчиллын алтан хараацай, ). After his death, his sister Oyuun entered politics and founded the Civic Will Party. Early life Zorig's grandfather was Russian geographer and ethnographer A. D. Simukov who had come to Mongolia as part of an expedition headed by Pyotr Kozlov. Zorig's grandfather was a victim of Marshal Choibalsan's purges, leaving his daughter Dorjpalam, Zorig's mother, an orphan. Sanjaasuren Oyun ( mn, Санжаасүрэнгийн Оюун), also transcribed S. Oyun, is a Mongolian politician and geologist. She is the leader of the Civil Will Party, is the former Minister of Environment and Green Development, and has been a Member of Parliament of Mongolia (State Great Khural) since 1998. She is also a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and is the current head of the Zorig Foundation. Now she is new head of Global Water Partnership GWP. In 2003, Eisenhower Fellowships awarded Oyun a fellowship program in the United States. In 2006, Oyun was selected as a Young Global Leader (YGL) by the Davos World Economic Forum (WEF).
