Ciudad Universitaria (Madrid Metro)
Ciudad Universitaria (University City) is a station on Line 6 of the Madrid Metro, located beneath Complutense avenue in the Ciudad Universitaria ward in the Moncloa-Aravaca district in fare Zone A. It is named after the Ciudad Universitaria, which is home to the Complutense University of Madrid, the Technical University of Madrid, and the National University of Distance Education. The station's platforms feature tilework representing the bear and the strawberry tree, which is a symbol of Madrid. The Madrid Metro (Spanish: ''Metro de Madrid'') is a rapid transit system serving the city of Madrid, capital of Spain. The system is the 14th longest rapid transit system in the world, with a total length of 293 km (182 mi). The ''Statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree'' (in Spanish “El Oso y el Madroño”) is a sculpture from the second half of the 20th century, situated in the Spanish city of Madrid. It represents the coat of arms of Madrid and is found on the east side of the Puerta del Sol, between Calle de Alcalá and Carrera de San Jerónimo, in the historical centre of the capital. History The statue is a work of the sculptor (1906-1983) and it was inaugurated on 19 January 1967. It was promoted by the section of Culture of the City council of Madrid, which wanted to represent the main heraldic symbols of the city in a monument. The first appearance of a wild bear and a strawberry tree on the coat of arms of the city was in the 13th century. Track Ballast
Track ballast forms the trackbed upon which railroad ties (sleepers) are laid. It is packed between, below, and around the ties. It is used to bear the load from the railroad ties, to facilitate drainage of water, and also to keep down vegetation that might interfere with the track structure. Ballast also holds the track in place as the trains roll over it. A variety of materials have been used as track ballast, including crushed stone, washed gravel, bank run (unwashed) gravel, torpedo gravel (a mixture of coarse sand and small gravel), slag, chats, coal cinders, sand, and burnt clay. The term "ballast" comes from a nautical term for the stones used to stabilize a ship. Moncloa (Madrid Metro)
Moncloa is a multimodal station in Madrid, Spain that serves Madrid Metro Line 3 and Line 6, as well as city buses and intercity and long-distance coaches. It is located underneath Moncloa square and Princesa street near Arco de la Victoria and the headquarters of the Spanish Air and Space Force in fare Zone A. History The station was inaugurated on 17 July 1963 when Line 3 was extended from Argüelles. The station featured platforms, in contrast with the found in the rest of the line. Because of this, it was the only station on Line 3 that was not renovated in 2006. The station had two entrances, one on Isaac Peral street, and the other on Fernández de los Ríos street, both of which are closed today. Vicente Aleixandre (formerly Metropolitano) is a station on Line 6 of the Madrid Metro, located beneath Gregorio del Amo avenue in the Moncloa-Aravaca district in fare Zone A, although one of its exits is located in the Chamberí district. It is named after Spanish poet Vicente Aleixandre. Cuatro Caminos is a station on Line 1, Line 2 and Line 6 of the Madrid Metro, located underneath the Cuatro Caminos roundabout on the border of Chamberí and Tetuán districts in Madrid.
