Citytrain
The Queensland Rail Citytrain network, provides urban, suburban and interurban electric passenger railway services in South East Queensland, Australia. History The first railway in Queensland did not run to Brisbane, but ran from Ipswich railway station, Queensland, Ipswich to Grandchester railway station, Grandchester and opened in July 1865. The Ipswich & Rosewood railway line, line into Brisbane was not completed until the opening of the Albert Bridge, Brisbane, Albert Bridge in July 1875. A start on Rail electrification in Queensland, electrification of the suburban network was approved in 1950 but a change of Government of Queensland, state government in 1957 saw the scheme abandoned in 1959. Queensland Rail (QR) is a railway operator in Queensland, Australia. Owned by the Queensland Government, it operates local and long-distance passenger services, as well as owning and maintaining approximately 6,600 kilometres of track and related infrastructure. QR was also responsible for all Queensland freight services, and from 2002 operated interstate services under the Australian Railroad Group, Interail and QR National brands. Caboolture Railway Station
Caboolture railway station is located on the North Coast line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the urban centre of Caboolture in the Moreton Bay Region. History Caboolture station opened in June 1889 as part of the extension of the North Coast Line from Petrie, which opened in March 1888. As part of the electrification of the line from Petrie, the existing station building was replaced and a new island platform built. The new station opened on 16 November 1985, while the electrification opened on 28 June 1986. The Kilcoy line branched off to the north-west. It opened in December 1909, closing in September 1996. In the late 1970s and 1980s, a significant rail electrification program was completed in the Australian state of Queensland. The electrified Queensland network is the largest in Australia with over 2,000 kilometres electrified, the next biggest is New South Wales with 640 kilometres, that is served mainly as passenger operations. Today all suburban passenger services in South East Queensland are operated by Queensland Rail electric multiple units, as well as electric tilt train services as far as Rockhampton. ''Railway Digest'' is a monthly magazine, published in Sydney, covering contemporary railways of Australia. Overview The magazine's publisher is the Australian Railway Historical Society (ARHS), NSW Division. The first issue was published in March 1963 under the name ''New South Wales Digest'' and regular publication commenced with the May 1963 edition. It was renamed in January 1983. In January 1985 it changed paper size from SRA5 to A4. Originally an enthusiast magazine mainly focusing on reporting day-to-day workings of the New South Wales Government Railways and it successors, it was produced by volunteers using a hand-operated duplicator at the home of one of its members. Beerburrum Railway Station
Beerburrum railway station is located on the North Coast line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the town of Beerburrum in the Sunshine Coast Region. History The North Coast line from Caboolture to Landsborough (which included a siding at Beerburrum) was completed on 1 February 1890. Beerburrum station was originally a single platform with a crossing loop. As part of the construction of a new 14 kilometre alignment for the North Coast line from Caboolture to Beerburrum, a new station was built immediately to the east, opening on 14 April 2009. North Coast Railway Line, Queensland
The North Coast railway line is a 1067 mm railway line in Queensland, Australia. It commences at Roma Street station, Brisbane, and largely parallels the Queensland coast to Cairns in Far North Queensland. The line is electrified between Brisbane and Rockhampton. Moreton Bay
Moreton Bay is a bay located on the eastern coast of Australia from central Brisbane, Queensland. It is one of Queensland's most important coastal resources. The waters of Moreton Bay are a popular destination for recreational anglers and are used by commercial operators who provide seafood to market. The Port of Brisbane coordinates large traffic along the shipping channel which crosses the northern section of the bay. The bay serves as a safe approach to the airport and reduces noise pollution over the city to the west of the runway. A number of barge, ferry and water-taxi services also travel over the bay.
