''City on Fire: The Fight for Hong Kong'' is a nonfiction book by Antony Dapiran. It discusses the 2019–2020 Hong Kong protests, which the author described as "a battle for Hong Kong's very soul". Background Dapiran, from Australia, lived in Hong Kong for an extended length of time and provided consulting to Chinese companies over a 20-year period. Dapiran was present at several of the 2019 protests. Contents The first chapter discusses tear gas. The book also discusses the evolution of protest in Hong Kong; the catalyst for the protests, the murder of Poon Hiu-wing; the 2019 Hong Kong local elections; and the siege of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The book includes a prediction that the Chinese government would increase its direct control on Hong Kong, something Dapiran describes as "a slow and steady squeeze". Siege Of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
The siege of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University occurred during the 2019–2020 Hong Kong protests on the campus of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). The event was preceded by a similar conflict at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. It was precipitated by the setting-up of a roadblock at the Cross-Harbour Tunnel, next to the university. Protesters gathered at the university to defend the roadblock from attacks by the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF). Books About Hong Kong
A book is a medium for recording information in the form of writing or images, typically composed of many pages (made of papyrus, parchment, vellum, or paper) bound together and protected by a cover. The technical term for this physical arrangement is ''codex'' (plural, ''codices''). In the history of hand-held physical supports for extended written compositions or records, the codex replaces its predecessor, the scroll. A single sheet in a codex is a leaf and each side of a leaf is a page. As an intellectual object, a book is prototypically a composition of such great length that it takes a considerable investment of time to compose and still considered as an investment of time to read. In a restricted sense, a book is a self-sufficient section or part of a longer composition, a usage reflecting that, in antiquity, long works had to be written on several scrolls and each scroll had to be identified by the book it contained. Each part of Aristotle's '' Physics'' i ...
