City West Railway Station
City West railway station is a railway station on the Transperth network in Western Australia. It is located on the Fremantle line and Airport line, 1.6 kilometres from Perth station serving the suburb of West Perth. History The original West Perth station opened in 1883 as North Perth. It was renamed West Perth in 1890. The station closed on 1 September 1979 along with the rest of the Fremantle line, re-opening on 29 July 1983 when services were restored. On 18 June 1986, a new West Perth station opened on the other side of the West Perth Subway. It was renamed City West on 19 November 1987 in conjunction with the opening of an adjacent Parry Corporation commercial development of the same name. It is now a major transport option for students of the nearby Perth Modern School. West Perth is an inner suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. Geography Formerly an exclusive enclave for wealthy merchants and politicians, the West Perth suburb is now part of the inner mixed zone, and has predominantly office blocks which have displaced residential buildings. Transperth is the brand name of the public transport system serving the city and suburban areas of Perth, the state capital of Western Australia. It is managed by the Public Transport Authority (PTA), a state government organisation. Train operations are done by Transperth Train Operations, a division of the PTA. It is located on the Joondalup line, five kilometres from Perth station serving the suburb of Glendalough. History Glendalough station opened on 28 February 1993 in the median strip of the Mitchell Freeway where it crosses over Scarborough Beach Road via a bridge. In 2003, the contract for extending the platforms on seven Joondalup line stations, including Glendalough station, was awarded to Lakis Constructions. Green CAT (Perth)
The Perth Central Area Transit (Perth CAT) system, or simply CAT, consists of five bus routes in the centre of Perth, one bus route in Fremantle, and three bus routes in Joondalup. Similar services exist in Rockingham (the City Centre Transit System) and Midland (the Midland Gate Shuttle). Unlike all other Transperth services, most CAT routes are free.
