City School (Vancouver)
City School is Vancouver's longest-running public alternative school. It was created as "a non-graded, continuous progress school in which students take responsibility for their own learning and which tries to use the city as its classroom." Founding philosophy In 1970, the Director of Instruction for secondary schools in Vancouver was Alfred Clinton. He wrote "A Proposal for an Ungraded Continuous Progress School (City School)" and in it referenced the Metropolitan Learning Center (Portland, Oregon), Metropolitan Learning Center in Portland, Oregon as well as the now extinct Parkway Program in Philadelphia as "similar projects." Other philosophical influences were A. S. Neill's Summerhill School in Suffolk, England, and the SEED Alternative School, S.E.E.D. (Shared Experience Exploration and Discovery) School founded in Toronto, Ontario in 1968. The Juno Awards, more popularly known as the JUNOS, are awards presented annually to Canadian musical artists and bands to acknowledge their artistic and technical achievements in all aspects of music. New members of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame are also inducted as part of the awards ceremonies. ill-esha (pronounced ill-EE-sha) is a Canadian electronic music artist, producer, singer, and DJ known for her work in the bass music world, as well as her unique style of singing and DJing simultaneously. Biography From an early age ill-esha had a musical background, and she began her career as a vocalist, MC, and Drum and Bass DJ in the late 1990s. Glenbow Museum
The Glenbow Museum is an art and history regional museum in the city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The museum focuses on Western Canadian history and culture, including Indigenous perspectives. The Glenbow was established as a private non-profit foundation in 1955 by lawyer, businessman and philanthropist Eric Lafferty Harvie with materials from his personal collection. The museum moved to its current facility in downtown Calgary in 1976, and is funded by the governments of Calgary, Alberta and Canada, private donors, as well as an endowment provided by Harvie. In 2019, the Glenbow had a total of 148,668 visitors. The museum closed temporarily for renovations in 2021, and will re-open in 2024. Thomas Anselmi was the lead singer with Canadian bands Slow, Copyright (a.k.a. ©,), and Mirror. He was one of the partners at The Waldorf Hotel before its closure in 2013. Nü Sensae is a Canadian punk and grunge trio from Vancouver composed of bassist-vocalist Andrea Lukic, drummer Daniel Pitout, and guitarist Brody McKnight.
