Citrus County Schools
The Citrus County School District is the public school district of Citrus County, Florida. The district serves the cities of Crystal River and Inverness, and communities such as Beverly Hills, Citrus Springs, Floral City, Hernando, Holder, Homosassa, and Lecanto. The district is composed of eleven elementary schools, four middle schools, three high schools, a charter school, and two alternative schools. Inverness is a city in Citrus County, Florida, United States. As of the 2020 census,the population was 7,543. It is the county seat of Citrus County and is home to the Citrus County Courthouse and near the Flying Eagle Preserve. Geography Inverness is located in eastern Citrus County, on the western shore of the connected Tsala Apopka and Henderson lakes. The Academy of Environmental Science (AES) is a public charter school in Crystal River, Citrus County, Florida, United States, and a part of the Citrus County School District. The Academy is located on Fort Island, near Fort Island Gulf Beach. The Florida panther is a North American cougar (''P. c. couguar'') population in South Florida. It lives in pinelands, tropical hardwood hammocks, and mixed freshwater swamp forests. It is known under a number of common names including Costa Rican puma, Florida cougar, and Florida puma. Crystal River High School was built in Crystal River, Florida, in 1969. It was the second of the high schools located in Citrus County. The first enrollment count was 750 students. As of 2022, it is rated #3 out of 5 in Crystal River. Citrus High School (CHS) is a public high school in the town of Inverness, Florida, United States. A part of the Citrus County School District, Citrus High currently offers a four-year curriculum in grades 9-12 and currently has an enrollment of 1,420 students. Classes start at 7:50 am and dismissal time is at 2:40 pm. The school was founded in 1911 and in 2011 celebrated its 100th anniversary.
