Ciro Urriola
Ciro Luis Urriola Garrés (3 July 1863 – 26 June 1922) was a Panamanian politician. He returned to Panama in 1888 to practice his profession. In 1893 he was in charge of Health Medicine of the Port of Panama for four years. He travels to Paris and in 1898 he studies bacteriology and nervous diseases. Then he settles down in Dublin where he obtains a diploma in bachelor's degree, which is now obstetrics. He returned to Panama in 1901, in the middle of the thousand-day war, where his adherence to liberalism caused him problems. After independence, he was a member of the National Constituent Convention. In 1903, he was appointed a doctor in the service of policemen and prisoners of the old Hospital Santo Tomás, and since then he has been dedicated to the study of malaria. In 1904 he returned to Paris as a delegate of the Tuberculosis Congress and went to Rome where he studied malaria. The National Assembly of Panama ( es, Asamblea Nacional de Panamá), formerly the Legislative Assembly of Panama ''(Asamblea Legislativa de Panamá)'', is the legislative branch of the government of the Republic of Panama. It is a unicameral legislature, currently made up of 71 members, who serve five-year terms. Legislators from outlying rural districts are chosen by a first past the post method, while districts located in more populous towns and cities elect multiple legislators by means of a proportion-based formula. Panama's legislative elections are held simultaneous with its presidential and local elections. Panama also returns a delegation of 20 deputies to the supranational Central American Parliament. The National Liberal Party ( es, Partido Liberal Nacional) was a liberal party in Panama. The party was an observer at Liberal International. The party was formed in 1903 out of the Panamanian branch of the Colombian Liberal Party, shortly after Panama declared independence. The PNL merged with Solidarity Party (Partido Solidaridad) to form the new Patriotic Union Party (Unión Patriótica) in 2009. The Panama Canal Zone ( es, Zona del Canal de Panamá), also simply known as the Canal Zone, was an unincorporated territory of the United States, located in the Isthmus of Panama, that existed from 1903 to 1979. It was located within the territory of Panama, consisting of the Panama Canal and an area generally extending on each side of the centerline, but excluding Panama City and Colón. Its capital was Balboa. Ancón, Panama
Ancón is a corregimiento in Panamá District, Panamá Province, Panama with a population of 29,761 as of 2010. Its population as of 1990 was 11,518; its population as of 2000 was 11,169. It is sometimes considered a suburb or small town within Panama City, northeast of the limits of the town of Balboa. Ancon Hill is also the name of a large hill that overlooks Panama City and once served as a form of protection from pirates and sea invasion. The township was originally located around this hill, and was created to house employees of the Panama Canal during its construction. As part of the construction effort, the historic Gorgas Army Hospital was founded and built on the hillside. The first ship to officially transit the canal, , was named after the district.
