Circumstances (song)
"Circumstances" is a song by Canadian rock band Rush from its 1978 album '' Hemispheres''. Lyrically, it is an autobiographical account by drummer Neil Peart about the time he spent living in England, and his eventual disillusionment with his then-current occupations. The song was played sporadically on the 1978-79 Tour of the Hemispheres, and did not return to Rush's setlists until the 2007 Snakes & Arrows Tour. On the latter tour, the song was played in a lower key than the original recording, to accommodate vocalist Geddy Lee's vocal range decreasing with age. It is one of a few Rush songs with French lyrics, these occurring in the chorus: "Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose" (the more it changes, the more it is the same). Rush (band)
Rush was a Canadian rock band formed in 1968 in Toronto, that was comprised primarily of Geddy Lee (bass, vocals), Alex Lifeson (guitar), and Neil Peart (drums, percussion, lyricist). The band formed in Toronto in 1968 by Lifeson, drummer John Rutsey, and bass guitarist/vocalist Jeff Jones, who was immediately replaced by Lee. After Lee joined, the band went through several lineup configurations before arriving at its classic power trio lineup with the addition of Peart in July 1974, who replaced Rutsey four months after the release of their 1974 self-titled debut album; this lineup remained intact for the remainder of the band's career. Rush achieved commercial success in the 1970s with '' Fly by Night'' (1975), '' 2112'' (1976), ''A Farewell to Kings'' (1977) and '' Hemispheres'' (1978). Macaronic Songs
Macaronic language uses a mixture of languages, particularly bilingual puns or situations in which the languages are otherwise used in the same context (rather than simply discrete segments of a text being in different languages). The Snakes & Arrows Tour was a concert tour by Canadian rock band Rush to promote the studio album ''Snakes & Arrows''. The first leg of the tour began on June 13, 2007, in Atlanta and concluded on October 29, 2007, at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland. The 2008 portion of the tour started on April 11, 2008, in San Juan, Puerto Rico at José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum and ended on July 24, 2008, in Noblesville, Indiana at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. The tour was Rush's most successful to date, grossing nearly $65 million. At 114 shows, it is Rush's second-longest tour, after the '' Hemispheres'' tour back in Rush released the double live album ''Snakes & Arrows Live'' on April 15, 2008, documenting the 2007 leg. ''Hemispheres'' is the sixth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released in October 1978 by Anthem Records. After touring to support the band's previous release, ''A Farewell to Kings'', during which the group gained popularity in the UK, Rush started work on their next album. As with the band's previous studio album, ''Hemispheres'' was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Monmouthshire and Trident Studios in London with longtime engineer and arranger, Terry Brown. Rush continued its progressive rock sound with the side-long " Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres" and the nine-minute instrumental "La Villa Strangiato". ''Hemispheres'' received acclaim from music critics. It reached number 14 in Canada and the UK, and number 41 in the United States.
