Cinema (Elaine Paige Album)
''Cinema'' is the fourth solo album by Elaine Paige, released in 1984 on Warner Music. It peaked at number 12 in the UK Albums Chart. Background For her previous album ''Stages'' (1983), Paige had chosen tracks from musical theatre. Following this theme, ''Cinema'' features songs that had been previously recorded for film soundtracks. Tim Rice wrote lyrics to Vangelis's theme for the film '' Missing'' specifically for this album. Production ''Cinema'' was the second of Paige's recordings to be produced by Tony Visconti. Like ''Stages'', the recording was primarily conducted at Visconti's Good Earth Studios, other than for "Sometimes" (Theme from ''Champions'') which had been previously recorded at CTS Studios in London, featuring the New World Philharmonia. Elaine Paige
Elaine Jill Paige (née Bickerstaff; born 5 March 1948) is an English singer and actress, best known for her work in musical theatre. Raised in Barnet, Hertfordshire, Paige attended the Aida Foster Theatre School, making her first professional appearance on stage in 1964, at the age of 16. Her appearance in the 1968 production of ''Hair'' marked her West End debut. Following a number of roles over the next decade, Paige was selected to play Eva Perón in the first production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's ''Evita'' in 1978, which brought her to the attention of the broader public. For this role, she won the Laurence Olivier Award for Performance of the Year in a musical. She originated the role of Grizabella in ''Cats'' and had a Top 10 hit with "Memory", a song from the show. Norman Newell
Norman Newell (25 January 1919 – 1 December 2004) was an English record producer, who was mainly active in the 1950s and 1960s. He was also the songwriter, co-writer of many notable songs. As an A&R manager for EMI, he worked with musicians such as Shirley Bassey, Dalida, Claude François, Vera Lynn, Russ Conway, Bette Midler, Judy Garland, Petula Clark, Jake Thackray, Malcolm Roberts (singer), Malcolm Roberts, Bobby Crush and Peter and Gordon. Newell was particularly known for his recorded productions of West End theatre, West End musicals. His songs have been cover version, covered by Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Celine Dion and Aretha Franklin. In 1999, Newell's song, "Portrait of My Love", originally recorded by Matt Monro in 1960, was honoured at the BMI Awards in London for having two million radio plays. ''Eyes of Laura Mars'' is a 1978 American neo noir mystery-thriller film starring Faye Dunaway and Tommy Lee Jones and directed by Irvin Kershner. The screenplay was adapted (in collaboration with David Zelag Goodman) from a spec script titled ''Eyes,'' written by John Carpenter; it was Carpenter's first major studio film. H. B. Gilmour later wrote a novelization. Producer Jon Peters, who was dating Barbra Streisand at the time, bought the screenplay as a starring vehicle for her, but Streisand eventually decided not to take the role because of "the kinky nature of the story", as Peters later explained. As a result, the role went to Dunaway, who had just won an Oscar for her performance in ''Network.'' Streisand nevertheless felt that "Prisoner", the torch song from the film, would be a good power ballad vehicle for her. Karen Lawrence is an American singer and songwriter who has worked with the L.A. Jets (1994), Karen Lawrence and the Pinz, and Blue by Nature. She sang backup vocals on "Get It Up" from the '' Draw the Line'' by Aerosmith and sang "Back on the Streets" from the Jeff Beck album ''Flash''. Michael Gore (born March 5, 1951) is an American composer. Gore is the younger brother of singer-songwriter Lesley Gore. Biography A 1969 graduate of the Dwight-Englewood School, Gore received the school's Distinguished Alumni Award in 2004.
