''Cinema, Aspirins and Vultures'' ( pt, Cinema, Aspirinas e Urubus) is a 2005 Brazilian film directed by Marcelo Gomes. It was Brazil's submission to the 79th Academy Awards for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, but was not accepted as a nominee. It was also screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival. Plot synopsis German national Johann is traveling in rural northern Brazil in the 1940s, selling the new drug aspirin by screening a short promotional film for isolated villagers, many of whom have never seen a motion picture. He meets drifter Ranulpho, who agrees to work for Johann in exchange for a ride to Rio de Janeiro. They have many encounters and misadventures on their journey, eventually selling out Johann's entire stock of aspirin to a wealthy brothel owner. Marcelo Gomes (director)
Marcelo Gomes is a Brazilian film director, screenwriter and visual artist. Early life Gomes was born in Recife, Brazil. Before going on to create films, he worked as a programmer of films at a film club. Career Gomes first directed several short films, a video, and a telemovie, between 1995 and 2000. His debut feature film, ''Cinema, Aspirins and Vultures, Cinema, Aspirinas e Urubus'', was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival. Francisco Figueiredo (born October 23, 1989) is a Brazilian mixed martial artist who competed in the Flyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He is the younger brother of the two-time and former UFC Flyweight Champion Deiveson Figueiredo.
