Cincinnati Tigers (baseball) Players
The Cincinnati Tigers were a professional Negro league baseball team that was based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Founding The club was founded in 1934 by DeHart Hubbard, who was the first African American to win an individual Olympic gold medal when he won the long jump during the 1924 Summer Olympics. Dizzy Dismukes was named as the club's first manager as they entered the integrated Indiana-Ohio League. In addition, Carl Glass also served time as the club's manager during their first season. Negro Southern League In addition to membership in the Indiana-Ohio League, the Tigers were also members of the Negro Southern League, though by the second half of the season, they disappeared from the standings. After a brief hiatus, the Tigers rejoined the NSL again in 1936, credited with a 3-0 record in league play but reporting significantly less games than the rest of the league. Marlin Theodore "Pee Wee" Carter (December 27, 1912 – December 20, 1993) was an American baseball infielder in the Negro leagues. Neil Robinson (baseball)
Cornelius Randall Robinson (July 31, 1907 – July 23, 1983) was a professional baseball player in the Negro leagues. Robinson was also known by his nicknames Neil, Neal, and Shadow. He primarily played centerfield, but also played short stop, left field, and third base. He played from 1930 to 1952, mostly for the Memphis Red Sox. He also played with the Homestead Grays and Cincinnati Tigers. He was best known as a power hitter. Robinson had several seasons with a batting average greater than .300, and in 1939 and 1940, he won back-to-back Negro American League home run titles. Joe Lillard
Joseph Johnny Lillard Jr. (June 15, 1905 – September 18, 1978) was an American football, baseball, and basketball player. From 1932 to 1933, he was a running back for the National Football League's (NFL) Chicago Cardinals. Lillard was the last African-American, along with Ray Kemp, to play in the NFL until 1946, when Kenny Washington and Woody Strode joined the Los Angeles Rams. Lillard received the nickname "The Midnight Express" by the media. In 1933, he was responsible for almost half of the Cardinals' points. An orphan from an early age, Lillard attended Mason City High School before moving to the University of Oregon. He played twice for the university's football team in 1931 before he was ruled ineligible by the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) for playing semi-professional baseball. Roy E. Partlow (June 18, 1911 – April 19, 1987) was an American pitcher in Negro league baseball. He played between 1934 and 1951. In 1946, he was one of the first African American players signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers organization. Porter Moss
Porter Moss (June 10, 1910 – July 16, 1944) was an American Negro league baseball submarine style pitcher who played primarily for the Cincinnati Tigers and the Memphis Red Sox and was a three-time participant in the Negro league All-Star game. While returning to Memphis after a game, Moss was murdered in an altercation at the age of 34. Early years Porter Moss was born June 10, 1910, in Cincinnati, Ohio. His mother is listed as Ida Calloway. Verdell Mathis, one of Moss's teammates on the Memphis Red Sox recalled, in an interview with The Cincinnati Enquire, that Moss was a college educated man. The first mention of Moss as a baseball pitcher in the Cincinnati newspaper is in 1933. Playing career Semi-pro In 1933, Porter Moss was a pitcher for the Goodyear Shoe Repair Team, a community Class A team which played against other local Cincinnati teams.
