Cincinnati Swarm
The Cincinnati Swarm was a professional arena football franchise based in Cincinnati, Ohio. They were members of the Midwest Division of the National Conference of the af2. The Swarm joined the af2 as an expansion franchise in 2003 along with the Green Bay Blizzard. In 2003, the Swarm went 7–9, second in the Midwest Division. Despite their modest record, and finishing second in their division, they failed to make the playoffs. Cincinnati's attempt at arena football failed, and the Swarm folded after one year due to poor attendance. Ten years earlier, Cincinnati was home to the Cincinnati Rockers from 1992 to 1993, and like the Swarm, they folded shortly after their inception. Cincinnati Rockers
The Cincinnati Rockers were an arena football team based in Cincinnati, Ohio. They began play in 1992 as an expansion team in the Arena Football League and competed through the 1993 Arena Football League season, 1993 season before they suspended operations due to low attendance. The Rockers played their home games at the U.S. Bank Arena, Riverfront Coliseum. Cincinnati Jungle Kats
The Cincinnati Jungle Kats were an arena football team based in Cincinnati. The Jungle Kats were members of the Midwest Division of the American Conference of AF2. The Jungle Kats played its home games at the U.S. Bank Arena. Their only year in existence was 2007. The team is not to be confused with the Marshals (formerly the Cincinnati Marshals), the NIFL club that was the arena's former tenant, who changed their name to "The Marshals" and moved to Hara Arena in nearby Dayton, Ohio for the 2007 season. The team name was in reference to the city's NFL team, the Cincinnati Bengals and a tribute to the Cincinnati Zoo's tiger conservation efforts. ArenaCup
The ArenaCup was the af2's championship game. For the league's first five years, it was held at the arena of the higher seeded team. However, the 2005 ArenaCup was the first to be played at a neutral site in Bossier City, Louisiana. The 2006 ArenaCup was played in Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan. On August 25, 2007, ArenaCup 8 returned to Bossier City, LA. ArenaCup 9 was played at the arena of the higher seeded team, the Spokane Shock. ArenaCup 10 was held at the Orleans Arena in Paradise, Nevada. For the 2000 and 2001 ArenaCups, the game was televised nationally by TNN (now Paramount Network), who carried AFL games at the time. However, when the AFL announced their televised games would be shown on NBC rather than TNN, the ArenaCup telecast was lost. Derrick Shepard (Arena Football)
Derrick L. Shepard is a former American arena and indoor football defensive lineman. Shepard grew up in Dayton, Ohio, and attended Meadowdale High School. His football ability earned him a scholarship to Georgia Tech, where he participated in football for four years. After spending two years in training camps with the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots, Shepard began playing arena football. He played for the Arizona Rattlers and the Detroit Fury, before playing his next 5 years in af2 with the Tennessee Valley Vipers, Cincinnati Swarm and the Louisville Fire. After playing professionally for 9 years, Shepard became a coach of indoor football for the Miami Valley Silverbacks.
