Cilindro Municipal (The Municipal Cylinder) was an indoor arena in Montevideo, Uruguay, which was opened in 1956, for Uruguay's Industrial Exhibition of the Production of international character. The arena was used as the main venue of the 1967 edition of the FIBA World Cup, for which it had a seating capacity of 18,000 spectators. History Over the years, many artists performed at the arena, including Bob Dylan, The Mission, UB40, Van Halen, and Molotov. On October 8, 2001, Eric Clapton performed at the arena, during his Reptile World Tour, and drew a crowd of 18,000 fans. Fire damage and demolishing On 21 October 2010, the Cilindro Municipal's roof fell down atop the inside structure because of a fire, the source of which is unknown. The Reptile World Tour (sometimes: The Reptile Tour) a worldwide concert tour by British Rock musician Eric Clapton in support of his album ''Reptile''. The tour began on February 3, 2001 at London's Royal Albert Hall and ended on December 15, 2001 at the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama. Ginásio Gilberto Cardoso or Ginásio do Maracanãzinho, sometimes called just Maracanãzinho ("Little Maracanã" or "Mini Maracanã"), is an indoor arena located in Maracanã in the north zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Antel Arena is a multipurpose indoor arena that is located in the neighborhood of Villa Española, Montevideo, Uruguay. The arena has a capacity of 15,000 people for concerts, and 10,000 people for basketball games. The arena was built by the state telecommunications company ANTEL after they reached an agreement with the city of Montevideo, which granted them the rights to the arena for 30 years. The venue is operated by American company ASM Global. History The arena was built at the location of the old Cilindro Municipal, after it was left in a dilapidated state after a fire. Edison Eduardo Bonomi Varela (14 October 1948 – 20 February 2022) was a Uruguayan guerrilla member and politician of the Movement of Popular Participation – Broad Front. He served as Minister of Labour and Social Welfare from 2005 to 2009, and as Minister of the Interior from 2010 to 2020. Since February 15, 2020, he served as Senator of the Republic.
