Cilindar ( mk, Цилиндар) is a new wave, ska, 2 Tone and reggae band from Skopje, North Macedonia formed in the early 1980s, in the then SR Macedonia. Today its former members are respectable solo or band artists in the Macedonian music scene: *Dimitar "Mite" Dimovski - (drums) is a drummer of Macedonian cult band Arhangel. *Petar Rendžov - (guitar) became a prominent ethno jazz and blues guitarist as well as studio musician for other popular artists. *Risto Samardžiev - (vocals) - after the dissolution of Cilindar in 1983 he formed the new wave and later pop-rock band Haos in Laos in 1984. New Wave Music In Yugoslavia
New wave in Yugoslavia ( sr-Cyrl-Latn, Нови талас, Novi talas; hr, Novi val; sl, Novi val; mk, Нов бран) was the new wave music scene of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. As its counterparts, the British and the American new wave, from which the main influences came, the Yugoslav scene was also closely related to punk rock, ska, reggae, 2 Tone, power pop and mod revival. Some of its acts are also counted as belonging to the Yugoslav punk scene which already existed prior to new wave. Such artists were labeled as both punk rock and new wave (the term "new wave" was initially interchangeable with "punk"). Risto Samardžiev
Risto Samardžiev (Macedonian: Ристо Самарџиев), born 17 August 1964 in Skopje, is a Macedonian singer and songwriter. He started his musical career when he was 16 years old. He formed the Cilindar group in 1981, which was one of the first New Wave rock bands in the Socialist Republic of Macedonia. He was also the frontman of New Romantic group Haos in Laos. In 1987 he was invited to perform on MakFest, the largest music festival in the country. The song he performed, Chilli Willi (Чили Вили) then became a hit in Macedonia. After that performance he continued to work independently, appearing in festivals as well as in bands (such as Memorija.) He has won MakFest four times as a performer, and has also written songs for other singers.
