Cigaritis Ella
''Cigaritis ella'', the Ella's bar, is a butterfly of the family Lycaenidae. It is found from South Africa to the coast of eastern Kenya. In South Africa it is found from the Eastern Cape along the coast to KwaZulu-Natal, then inland to Eswatini, the Free State, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Limpopo, North West and Northern Cape. The wingspan is 21–24 mm for males and 25–30 mm for females. Adults are on wing year-round with peaks from August to October and from March to July. William Chapman Hewitson
William Chapman Hewitson (9 January 1806, in Newcastle upon Tyne – 28 May 1878, in Oatlands Park, Surrey) was a British naturalist. A wealthy collector, Hewitson was particularly devoted to Coleoptera (beetles) and Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) and, also, to birds' nests and eggs. His collection of butterflies, collected by him as well as purchased from travellers throughout the world, was one of the largest and most important of his time. He contributed to and published many works on entomology and ornithology and was an accomplished scientific illustrator. Life William Hewitson was educated in York. He became a land-surveyor and was for some time employed under George Stephenson on the London and Birmingham Railway. Gauteng ( ) is one of the nine provinces of South Africa. The name in Sotho-Tswana languages means 'place of gold'. North West is a province of South Africa. Its capital is Mahikeng. The province is located to the west of the major population centre of Gauteng and south of Botswana.
