''Cigarette Girl'' is a 1947 American musical comedy film directed by Gunther von Fritsch to a story by Edward Huebsch and screenplay by Henry K. Moritz. The film stars Leslie Brooks, Jimmy Lloyd, Joan Barton, and Ludwig Donath. Music was provided by Russ Morgan and his orchestra. The film was described as "a revamping of the Cinderella theme". Shooting was scheduled to begin on September 9, 1946. Reception The film was first released on February 6, 1947, at Loew's as a second feature to ''Dead Reckoning'' which starred Humphrey Bogart. Reception of the film was lackluster, with Wanda Hale of the '' Daily News'' giving it two stars and describing it as "a sentimental, indifferent comedy". Gunther von Fritsch (15 July 1906, Pula – 27 August 1988, Pasadena, California, Pasadena) was an American film director born in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Biography Gunther von Fritsch was born 15 July 1906 in Pula. He studied in Paris, and in 1930 moved to the United States. During World War II, he entered the United States Army Signal Corps. After the war, he directed training films for the State Department in West Berlin. Von Fritsch died of a stroke in Pasadena, California, Pasadena 27 August 1988. Eugene Borden (born Élysée Eugène Prieur-Bardin, March 21, 1897 – July 2, 1971) was an American character actor in silent and sound films. Born in France, he immigrated to the United States as a teenager, and entered the film industry a short time later. He appeared in over 150 films, as well as shorts, serials, and television shows. Francis Pierlot
Francis Pierlot (July 15, 1875 – May 11, 1955) was a stage and film actor with over 90 film credits between 1914 and 1953. The Massachusetts-born actor's first film credit was in 1914, but he did not begin appearing in films full-time until 1940, when he was 63 years old. He specialized in playing grey-haired well dressed characters in small parts including judges, priests and lawyers. One of Pierlot's larger roles was as Jean Simmons' manservant in his final film, the biblical epic ''The Robe'' (1953). He died in Hollywood, California, at age 79. Howard Freeman (December 9, 1899 – December 11, 1967) was an American actor of the early 20th century, and film and television actor of the 1940s through the 1960s. Biography Freeman was born in Helena, Montana, and began working as a stage actor in his 20s. He did not enter the film industry until he was over 40, in 1942, when he played a small uncredited role in ''Inflation''.
