''Story of Pao'' or ''Pao's Story'' ( vi, Chuyện của Pao) is a 2006 Vietnamese film. It stars Đỗ Thị Hải Yến who also starred in ''The Quiet American'', and was directed and written by her husband Ngô Quang Hải. It is set among the Hmong people of North Vietnam. The film had premiered in the First Films World Competition section of the 30th Montreal World Film Festival. It also won four Golden Kite Prizes (the Oscars of Vietnam). The Hmong people are an ethnic group currently native to several countries, believed to have come from the Yangtze river basin area in southern China. The Hmong are known in China as the ''Miao'', which encompasses not only Hmong, but also other related groups such as Hmu, Qo Xiong and A-Hmao. Nguyễn Như Quỳnh (born in 1954) known as Như Quỳnh, is a Vietnamese actress and People's Artist ( NSND). She is also known as an amateur poet. Nhu Quynh actor graduated in 1971 from the Vietnam Theatre School, today the University of Theatre and Film, Hanoi (SKDA). Two years later, she acted as one of the two female leads in her first film, ''Bài ca ra trận'' (1973). Then with her role as the girl Nết in ''Đến hẹn lại lên'' (1974), Như Quỳnh won the Best Actress Award at the 3rd Vietnam Film Festival in 1975. Her roles in a series of French co-productions, ''Indochine'' (1992), ''Cyclo'' (1995) and ''Vertical Ray of the Sun'' (2000) introduced her to a foreign audience. Hmong People
The Hmong people ( RPA: ''Hmoob'', Nyiakeng Puachue: , Pahawh Hmong: , ) are a sub-ethnic group of the Miao people who originated from Central China.
