Kostol Navstivenia Panny Marie lies in the town centre in Považská Bystrica. It was built in the 14th century by the Royal Hungarian János Podmanitzky owner of castle Považský hrad Považský hrad (other names: ''Hrad Bystrica'', ''Bystrický hrad'', ''Vágbeszterce vára'', ''Waagburg'', ''Bistrizza'', ''Bestruche castrum'') is a ruin of medieval castle on the right side of the river Váh, near Považská Bystrica in Slova .... It was rebuilt in 1940 to satisfy the need for capacity, leaving only presbytery, tower and northern part of girting walls of the old church. Nowadays paned windows were designed by Slovak artists Vincent and Viera Hloznik. Nitra
Nitra (; also known by other alternative names) is a city in western Slovakia, situated at the foot of Zobor Mountain in the valley of the river Nitra. It is located 95 km east of Bratislava. With a population of about 78,353, it is the fifth largest city in Slovakia. Nitra is also one of the oldest cities in Slovakia; it was the political center of the Principality of Nitra. Považská Bystrica
Považská Bystrica (; german: Waagbistritz; hu, Vágbeszterce) is a town in northwestern Slovakia. It is located on the Váh river, around 30 km from the city of Žilina. It belongs to Upper Váh region of tourism. Profile Považská Bystrica is situated in a fold of mountain ranges Strážovské vrchy (1213 m) and Javorníky (1071 m a.s.l.). Mountains offer an attractive experience to trekkers and mountain-bikers in summer season, cross-country and skiing opportunities in winter season. Podmanitzky Family
The Podmanitzky family was an influential noble family from Upper Hungary, in the Kingdom of Hungary. They originate from the little village of Podmanin - also Podmanyn or Podmaninch - (today Podmanín as part of Považská Bystrica in Slovakia). They passed regional bylaw called Articuli Podmanickyani which is sound testimony to the life of small size Slovak medieval town of Považská Bystrica (Vágbeszterce) in the 16th century. :"They were the men, who for more than a hundred years influenced highest politics in the Kingdom of Hungary. Považský Hrad
Považský hrad (other names: ''Hrad Bystrica'', ''Bystrický hrad'', ''Vágbeszterce vára'', ''Waagburg'', ''Bistrizza'', ''Bestruche castrum'') is a ruin of medieval castle on the right side of the river Váh, near Považská Bystrica in Slovakia. It is thought to be the essential part of silhouette of Považie and Upper Váh region especially. It is built on a cliff 497 meters above sea level. It was one of the most important castles guarding the valley of the river Váh. At the peak of its fame it was home of around 400 people. It is famously known as an "eagles nest" of the important Hungarian noble family of Podmanitzky. History The first settlement of the castle cliff is dated to Púchov culture, also a Celtic coin was found on the hill.
