Chungkhokai Doungel (1940/1941 – 21 May 2023) was an Indian politician. Doungel was a prominent Kuki leader, and served as Minister in different coalition governments in the state of Manipur.''The Telegraph''. 7-party alliance backs NCP' Doungel and his sons survived various assassination attempts. He limped after having suffered an injury to his leg. His wife was blinded by a bomb sent to her on 7 July 1995. Doungel was fielded by the NCP as its candidate in the Outer Manipur seat in the 2014 Indian general election. Kuki People
The Kuki people are an ethnic group native to the Mizo Hills (formerly Lushai), a mountainous region in the southeastern part of Mizoram and Manipur in India. The Kuki constitute one of several hill tribes within India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. In Northeast India, they are present in all states except Arunachal Pradesh. Some fifty tribes of Kuki peoples in India are recognised as scheduled tribes, based on the dialect spoken by that particular Kuki community as well as their region of origin. 2014 Indian General Election
General elections were held in India in nine phases from 7 April to 12 May 2014 to elect the members of the 16th Lok Sabha. With 834 million registered voters, they were the largest-ever elections in the world until being surpassed by the 2019 Indian general election, 2019 elections. Around 23.1 million or 2.7% of the total eligible voters were aged 18–19 years. A total of 8,251 candidates contested the 543 elected Lok Sabha seats. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is a national level political party in India that was formed to represent Bahujans (literally means "community in majority"), referring to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes (OBC), along with religious minorities.
