Chuhuiv Raion
Chuhuiv Raion () is a raion (district) in Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine. Its administrative center is the city of Chuhuiv. Population: On 18 July 2020, as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, the number of raions of Kharkiv Oblast was reduced to seven, and the area of Chuhuiv Raion was significantly expanded. Three abolished raions, Pechenihy, Vovchansk, and Zmiiv Raions, as well as the city of Chuhuiv, which was previously incorporated as a city of oblast significance and did not belong to the raion, were merged into Chuhuiv Raion. Raions of Ukraine (often translated as "districts"; Ukrainian: ра́йон, tr. ''raion''; plural: райо́ни, tr. ''raiony'') are the second level of administrative division in Ukraine, below the oblast. Raions were created in a 1922 administrative reform of the Soviet Union, to which Ukraine, as the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, belonged. On 17 July 2020, the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine's parliament) approved an administrative reform to merge most of the 490 raions, along with the "cities of regional significance", which were previously outside the raions, into just 136 reformed raions. Staryi Saltiv ( uk, Старий Салтів, russian: Старый Салтов) is an urban-type settlement in Chuhuiv Raion of Kharkiv Oblast in Ukraine. It is located on the right bank of the Donets, which is dammed here as Pechenyhi Reservoir. Staryi Saltiv hosts the administration of Staryi Saltiv settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: The name of the village is eponymously derived from the folklore word of Turkic origin "saltan", aka "sultan" in English. Most likely there was a proto-city here founded in the Middle Ages under the Khazar Kaghanate. Slobozhanske ( uk, Слобожанське, russian: Слобожанское) is an urban-type settlement in Chuhuiv Raion of Kharkiv Oblast in Ukraine. It is located in the valley of the Donets, on its left bank. Slobozhanske hosts the administration of Slobozhanske settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: Until 4 February 2016 the settlement was known as Komsomolske. On that day, Verkhovna Rada adopted decision to rename Komsomolske to Slobozhanske according to the law prohibiting names of Communist origin. The settlement filed a case stating that the opinions of the inhabitants have been ignored; the court decided against the settlement and kept the new name. Until 18 July 2020, Slobozhanske belonged to Zmiiv Raion.
