Chu Yibing
Chu Yibing (Chinese: 朱亦兵) (born 1966) is a Chinese cellist. He contributed to spreading ensemble music all over China. His ensemble China Philharmonic Cellists, made up of 12 Chinese cellists, gives concerts all over the country. Biography He was imparted rudimentary knowledge of music by his parents, both of whom were professors in the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, when he was a child. His mother is half-Swiss half-Chinese. Chu's father was an excellent cellist and a strict teacher, so Chu laid a solid foundation before he studied abroad in Europe. He went to Europe to pursue music studies in 1983. In France, he studied with Maurice Gendron. In 1986, he was awarded several prizes in an international cello competition in Geneva, which made him the first Chinese cellist that had won an international competition. Sinfonieorchester Basel
The Sinfonieorchester Basel (Symphony Orchestra Basel; Swiss abbreviation SOB) is a symphony orchestra based in Basel, Switzerland. Its principal concert venue is the ''Musiksaal'' of the Stadtcasino. In addition, the orchestra accompanies ballet and opera productions with Theater Basel, and records prolifically, often for Sony Classical. The Berliner Symphoniker (''Berlin Symphony Orchestra'') is a German symphony orchestra based in Berlin, Germany. History The orchestra began its performing activity on 1 September 1967 as ''Symphonisches Orchester Berlin'', under the auspices of the ''Berliner Orchestervereinigung e.V.'', after the merger of two independent orchestras, the ''Berliner Symphonisches Orchester'' and the ''Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester''. Munich Symphony Orchestra
The Munich Symphony Orchestra (Münchner Symphoniker) is a German orchestra based in Munich but active statewide in Bavaria. It gives subscription concerts at the Herkulessaal and the Prinzregententheater and, to a lesser degree, at the Philharmonie am Gasteig. Kurt Graunke founded the ensemble as the “Graunke Symphony Orchestra” in 1945 and led its first concert on September 25 of that year as a benefit for the Bavarian Red Cross. The City of Basel Music Academy (german: Musik-Akademie der Stadt Basel) is an institution for music education, located in Basel, Switzerland. It comprises a music school, college of music, and a center for early music research and performance. Mstislav Leopoldovich Rostropovich, (27 March 192727 April 2007) was a Russian cellist and conductor. He is considered by many to be the greatest cellist of the 20th century. In addition to his interpretations and technique, he was well known for both inspiring and commissioning new works, which enlarged the cello repertoire more than any cellist before or since.
