''Chrysis inaequalis'' is a species of cuckoo wasps (insects in the family Chrysididae). The species occurs in Central and Southern Europe and in the Near East. The head and the thorax are shiny metallic blue-green, while the abdomen is red. Adults grow up to long and can be encountered from late June to mid September, especially flying on sun-exposed walls, on rocks and on dead wood. Biology This species is a parasite of bees and wasps. Anders Gustaf Dahlbom (3 March 1806 – 3 May 1859) was a Swedish entomologist. Dahlbom was born in Härberga parish in Östergötland County, son of a military surgeon. He matriculated at Lund University in 1825, completed his filosofie magister degree in 1829, became a docent of natural history in 1830, acting adjunct of entomology in 1841, adjunct in 1843 and keeper of the Entomological collections and professor extraordinary in 1857. Mason bee is a name now commonly used for species of bees in the genus ''Osmia'', of the family Megachilidae. ''Eumenes'' is the type genus of the subfamily Eumeninae ("potter wasps") of Vespidae. It is a large and widespread genus, with over 100 taxa (species and subspecies), mostly occurring in the temperate portions of the Northern Hemisphere. Most species are black or brown, and commonly marked with strikingly contrasting patterns of yellow, white, orange, or red (or combinations thereof). Chrysidinae
The subfamily Chrysidinae contains those species that are most commonly recognized as cuckoo wasps, being by far the largest and most familiar subfamily. The group contains 3000 species with 48 genera worldwide. They are highly sculptured, with brilliantly metallic-colored bodies, covering the entire spectrum, but primarily blues and greens. Taxonomy and Range The subfamily Chrysidinae is divided into five tribes: Chrysidini, Elampini, Parnopini, Kimseyini, and Allocoeliini, the first two of which are abundant and widespread.
