Chrome (XM)
Chrome was one of ten dance/electronica music Commercial-free satellite radio channels operated by Sirius XM Radio on channel 83 (and since November 2005 on DirecTV 861), and was one of five dance music channels offered by XM. The channel played classic disco and dance music from the 1970s through the 1980s and freestyle music which was popular from the mid-1980s to early 1990s. On November 12, 2008, the channel was eliminated from the XM lineup with the XM/Sirius merger, and no equivalent music was made available. Chrome was one of the first channels offered by XM Satellite Radio at launch; the first song played was "Get Down Tonight" by KC & The Sunshine Band. The last song played was Donna Summer's " Last Dance." Among its jingling promos was "Where Disco DOESN'T Suck." During November and December 2004, the channel was pre-empted for Special Xmas on the satellite service. Donna Summer
LaDonna Adrian Gaines (December 31, 1948May 17, 2012), known professionally as Donna Summer, was an American singer and songwriter. She gained prominence during the disco era of the 1970s and became known as the " Queen of Disco", while her music gained a global following. Influenced by the counterculture of the 1960s, Summer became the lead singer of a psychedelic rock band named Crow and moved to New York City. In 1968, she joined a German adaptation of the musical ''Hair'' in Munich, where she spent several years living, acting, and singing. There, she met music producers Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, and they went on to record influential disco hits together such as " Love to Love You Baby" and "I Feel Love", marking Summer's breakthrough into international music markets. The Strobe
Studio 54 Radio is a disco and freestyle music radio station. The station is operated by Sirius XM Radio and is classified under the "Dance/Electronic" category. The channel was originally known as The Strobe from 2002 to 2011, when it was relaunched under its current incarnation, an homage to the New York City discothèque Studio 54. On November 12, 2008, The Strobe was eliminated from the Sirius lineup as a result of the Sirius/XM channel lineup reorganization. On December 16, due to subscriber demand, Sirius XM Radio announced that the channel would be reactivated on January 15, 2009. On January 15, 2009, The Strobe returned to the Sirius lineup and made its debut on XM (on XM83, where the similarly-formatted Chrome had been prior to the November 2008 channel realignment). Special X was a Commercial-Free channel on XM Satellite Radio that played Novelty music with a "weirdness" theme. the Special X channel was on Channel 30 on XM Radio and on Channel 848 on DirecTV. In its early days, the channel was hosted by a character named Generalissimo Stacio Ortega, a creation of station programmer Lou Brutus. Some of its featured content included "Parrot Training Records," "Wax My Woody" (surf music), "Polka Party," "Wabbit Trax" (cartoon music), along with syndicated content such as Dr. Demento. During certain holidays such as St. Patrick's Day and Halloween, Special X would change its programming to feature related music. XM Satellite Radio (XM) was one of the three satellite radio (SDARS) and online radio services in the United States and Canada, operated by Sirius XM Holdings.
