Christos Batzios (footballer)
Christos Batzios ( el, Χρήστος Μπάτζιος, born 15 October 1991) is a Greek professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Super League 2 club Chania. Career Born in Kavala, Batzios began his football career at the infrastructure segments of local club, Elpides Kavala, at the age of 7. (Greek) At the age of 16, he signed up with fellow local club Aris Zygos, where he stayed until he graduated from high school. Having been accepted in the Department of Primary Education at the Democritus University of Thrace, Batzios combined his studies with amateur football, playing for Alexandroupoli-based clubs Ethnikos and Nea Chili, as well as neighboring club Evros Soufli. After graduating, Batzios returned to his hometown and signed a contract with Kavala in the summer of 2014. Kavala
Kavala ( el, Καβάλα, ''Kavála'' ) is a city in northern Greece, the principal seaport of eastern Macedonia and the capital of Kavala regional unit. It is situated on the Bay of Kavala, across from the island of Thasos and on the Egnatia motorway, a one-and-a-half-hour drive to Thessaloniki ( west) and a forty-minute drive to Drama ( north) and Xanthi ( east). It is also about 150 kilometers west of Alexandroupoli. Kavala is an important economic centre of Northern Greece, a center of commerce, tourism, fishing and oil-related activities, and formerly a thriving trade in tobacco. The Gamma Ethniki ( el, Γ΄ Εθνική Ερασιτεχνική Κατηγορία, C National Amateur Division) is the third highest football league in Greece. History The Gamma Ethniki began in 1965 as an amateur championship, while in 1983 it was changed to professional. Although not literally national (it is divided into ''North'' and ''South'' groups), Football League 2 is considered as a national division. On 3 August 2010, it was announced that the division had been renamed ''Football League 2''. From season 2013–14, the football League 2 is merged by fourth division championship (Delta Ethniki) and renamed again Gamma Ethniki.
