Christopher Lethbridge (Australian Politician)
Christopher Baron Lethbridge (30 August 1883 – 8 March 1981) was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly between 1937 and 1946. He was an Independent member of parliament. Early life Lethbridge was born in Mitchell, Queensland and was the son of a clerk. He was educated at Brisbane Grammar School and became an articled clerk. He served with the First Australian Imperial Force in France during World War One. Lethbridge was admitted as a solicitor in 1920 and founded Nicholson and Lethbridge, a law firm in Corowa where he was noted for his legal representation of soldier settlers. Lethbridge was involved in community organizations including the Ambulance Board and the Corowa Race club. Lethbridge also developed a farm,'Barondale' in the Corowa region. Mitchell is a rural town and locality in the Maranoa Region, Queensland, Australia. The town services the local area, a cattle and sheep farming district. In the , the locality of Mitchell had a population of 1,031 people. Geography Mitchell is on the Warrego Highway, west of Brisbane, 441 kilometres (274 mi) west of Toowoomba, 230 kilometres (143 mi) west of Miles, 89 kilometres (55 mi) west of Roma and 180 kilometres (112 mi) east of Charleville. Geography Since 1984, federal electoral division boundaries in Australia have been determined at redistributions by a redistribution committee appointed by the Australian Electoral Commission. Ebenezer Kendell
Ebenezer Thomas Kendell (31 May 1886 – 7 April 1966) was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1946 until 1950. He was a member of the Country Party. Early life Kendell was born at Miniacowie near Minalton on the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia. He was the son of a farmer and was educated to elementary level. He became a wheat farmer in the Wimmera district of Victoria and served in the First Australian Imperial Force in the Middle East and France in World War One. Following repatriation, he was one of a 100 Australian farmers chosen to study irrigation and wheat growing at the University of California. He moved from the Wimmera to Lockhart, New South Wales in 1927 and became active in community organizations including the Farmers and Settlers Association, the Returned and Services League of Australia, the Australian Wheat Growers Association, the Hospital Board and the Show Society. A by-election was held for the New South Wales Legislative Assembly electorate of Corowa on 9 November 1946 because of the resignation of Christopher Lethbridge (), to contest the federal seat of Riverina at the 1946 election as a Liberal candidate, however he was unsuccessful. Hugh Roberton
Hugh Stevenson Roberton (18 December 1900 – 13 March 1987) was an Australian politician. A member of the Country Party, he served as Minister for Social Services in the Menzies government from 1956 to 1965. He later served as Ambassador to Ireland from 1965 to 1967. Early life Roberton was born in Glasgow, Scotland, son of Sir Hugh S. Roberton, a Scottish composer and founder of the Glasgow Orpheus Choir. He was educated at the West of Scotland Agricultural College and Glasgow University and emigrated to Australia in the 1920s. He became a farmer and grazier at Old Junee and a writer on political and economic subjects, particularly in the rural newspaper the Land under the name, "Peter Snodgrass". Joe Langtry
Joseph Ignatius Langtry (2 September 1880 – 30 April 1951) was an Australian politician. Born in Kyabram, Victoria, he received a primary education before becoming a teamster. He moved to Barellan in New South Wales and became a wheatfarmer and publican. In 1940, he was the Labor candidate for the Australian House of Representatives seat of Riverina; he was successful in this, defeating Country Party member Horace Nock. The 1946 Australian federal election was held in Australia on 28 September 1946. All 74 seats in the House of Representatives and 19 of the 36 seats in the Senate were up for election. The incumbent Labor Party led by Prime Minister Ben Chifley defeated the opposition Liberal–Country coalition, led by Robert Menzies.
