Christopher Lawrence Davis
Christopher Lawrence Davis (January 7, 1875 – December 19, 1951) was an American farmer, businessman, and politician. Davis was born on a farm in Meriden Township, Steele County, Minnesota. He graduated from the Owatonna Senior High School, in Owatonna, Minnesota, in 1894. Davis moved to Verndale, Wadena County, Minnesota with his wife and family in 1912. Davis was a farmer and was involved with the farmers exchange and the Verndale Creamery Association. He served as the Steele County Superintendent of Schools from 1904 to 1910. He then served as the Mayor of Verndale, Minnesota, as the Assessor of Verndale, Minnesota, and on the Verndale Village Council. Davis also served on the Verndale School Board. He served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1929 to 1934. History Meriden Township was organized in 1858, and named after Meriden, Connecticut. Steele County is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 37,406. Its county seat is Owatonna. Owatonna Senior High School
Owatonna High School (OHS) is a public school in Owatonna, Minnesota, United States, located in the heart of the town. The school was established in 1877. Construction of the current building started in 1920 and the school was completed in 1921. It is the third high school built in Owatonna. It has just over 1,500 students students and 145 faculty members. History First OHS The First Owatonna High School was a wooden structure built in 1868 on Main St. across the street from what became, in 1877, Pillsbury Baptist Bible College, which was known as Pillsbury Academy at the time. The first class graduated in 1877 with four boys and three girls. A fire destroyed the building in 1882. No photograph of the building is known to exist. Wadena County ( ) is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 14,065. Its county seat is Wadena. History The newly organized Minnesota Legislature created the county on June 11, 1858. A settlement began at the future city of Wadena in 1871, and by 1873 a post office was in operation there. The settlement was designated the county seat when the state legislature organized the county on February 21, 1873. The town took the name of a trading post 15 miles (24 km) to the east, which had flourished for several years but was largely abandoned by that time.
