Christopher Kelly (civil Servant)
Sir Christopher William Kelly, KCB (born 18 August 1946) is a former senior British Civil Servant who was the Chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life and Chairman of the NSPCC. Early life Born in Bromley, Kent, Kelly is the son of Dr. Reginald Kelly (1917–90), a former President of the Association of British Neurologists. He attended the independent Beaumont College. He studied Economics at Trinity College, Cambridge and the University of Manchester. Civil Service career His first senior appointment in the Civil Service started when he was appointed Private Secretary to the Financial Secretary in 1971, a post he held until 1973. From 1978 to 1980 he was Secretary to the Wilson Committee of Inquiry into Financial Institutions. He held various other appointments in the Civil Service, including Director of Fiscal & Monetary Policy (1994–95). Christopher Kelly (born 1964) is an Australian classicist and historian, who specializes in the later Roman Empire and the classical tradition.Corpus Christi Collegfaculty bio He has been Master of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge since 2018. Early life and education He studied history and law at the University of Sydney as an undergraduate. He earned a doctorate at Trinity College, Cambridge. His doctoral thesis was titled "Corruption and bureaucracy in the later Roman Empire", and was submitted in 1993. Academic career Kelly is Professor of Classics and Ancient History in the Faculty of Classics, University of Cambridge. He is a previous chairman of the faculty. In December 2008, then- Democratic Governor of Illinois Rod Blagojevich and his Chief of Staff John Harris were charged with corruption by federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald. As a result, Blagojevich was impeached by the Illinois General Assembly and removed from office by the Illinois Senate in January 2009. The federal investigation continued after his removal from office, and he was indicted on corruption charges in April of that year. The jury found Blagojevich guilty of one charge of making false statements with a mistrial being declared on the other 23 counts due to a hung jury after 14 days of jury deliberation. On June 27, 2011, after a retrial, Blagojevich was found guilty of 17 charges (including wire fraud, attempted extortion, and conspiracy to solicit bribes), not guilty on one charge and the jury deadlocked after 10 days of deliberation on the two remaining charges. Christopher John Kelly
Christopher John Kelly (born 1888) was a British politician and trade unionist, who served on London County Council, but was later convicted of theft. Born in Lambeth, Kelly worked on the railways and became prominent in the National Union of Railwaymen (NUR). In his youth, he was a keen footballer, and captained the Northern United team when it won the Railway Challenge Cup three years in a row. He was a supporter of the Labour Party and was elected to Poplar Borough Council in 1919, representing Bromley North East, holding the seat until 1928. Also in 1919, he was elected to the Metropolitan Water Board, while he served on the Poplar Board of Guardians for six years. He was a supporter of the Poplar Rates Rebellion in 1921, but unlike many of the local councillors, he was not imprisoned.
