Christoph Eymann
Christoph Eymann (born 15 January 1951) is a Swiss attorney and former politician who served two terms on the Swiss National Council for the Liberal-Democratic Party from 1991 to 2001 and from 2015 to 2021. His most recent term was succeeded by his former domestic partner and mother of his children, Patricia von Falkenstein. He is also a former member of the Executive Council of Basel-Stadt. Since 2019, Eymann serves as president of ''Schweizerische Konferenz für Sozialhilfe (SKOS)''. He is the father of Annina von Falkenstein, who currently serves on the Grand Council of Basel-Stadt. The National Council (german: Nationalrat; french: Conseil national; it, Consiglio nazionale; rm, Cussegl naziunal) is the lower house of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland, the upper house being the Council of States. With 200 seats, the National Council is the larger of the two houses. Adult citizens elect the council's members, who are called National Councillors, for four year terms. These members are apportioned to the Swiss cantons in proportion to their population. Both houses meet in the Federal Palace of Switzerland in Bern. Basel-Stadt or Basel-City (german: Kanton ; rm, Chantun Basilea-Citad; french: Canton de Bâle-Ville; it, Canton Basilea Città) is one of the 26 cantons forming the Swiss Confederation. It is composed of three municipalities with Basel as the capital. It is traditionally considered a " half-canton", the other half being Basel-Landschaft, its rural counterpart. Basel-Stadt is one of the northernmost and lowest cantons of Switzerland, and the smallest by area. The canton lies on both sides of the Rhine and is very densely populated. Patricia Caroline Manuela von Falkenstein (born 11 April 1961) is a Swiss jurist, judge, politician, who currently serves as a member of the National Council (Switzerland) for the Liberal-Democratic Party since 2021. She previously served as a member of the Grand Council of Basel-Stadt between 2006 and 2020. Early life and education Von Falkenstein was born in Zürich, Switzerland, to Rainer and Vera von Falkenstein (née Wirth). Her paternal grandfather, Freiherr Ralph von Falkenstein, came to Switzerland in the 1930s hailing of nobility from Vogtland, Saxony. She was primarily raised in Oberwil with two siblings. Her father was a former executive at Sandoz who formed his own biochemical company. Grand Council Of Basel-Stadt
The Grand Council of Basel-Stadt (german: Grosser Rat) is the legislature of the canton of Basel-Stadt, in Switzerland. Basel-Stadt has a unicameral legislature. The Grand Council has 100 seats, with members elected every four years. Members of the canton's executive, the Executive Council, are elected on the same day. At the 2008 election, held on 14 September 2008, the Social Democratic Party fared badly, but retained its dominant position, with more than twice as many seats as the next-largest party, the Swiss People's Party (SVP). The legislature was reduced from 130 seats to 100, making all existing parties to lose ground. However, the SVP and Green Party both did relatively well, as did the new centrist Green Liberal Party, which won five seats.
