Christine Choi
Christine Choi Yuk-lin ( zh, 蔡若蓮; born 29 September 1966), is the current Secretary for Education in Hong Kong, formerly the principal of and vice-chairlady of Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers. Choi ran in two elections in 2016 but was both defeated. She was also appointed as government committee members. Her negative remarks on Cantonese, the mother language of Hongkongers, was slammed by some critics. Early career Choi graduated from Workers' Children Secondary School (Primary Section) ( 旺角勞工子弟學校小學部) in 1979, and in 1985. After graduating with a bachelor in Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), Choi continued her academic path in the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) for studying education and linguistics, and in HKBU for Chinese language and literature. The Education Bureau (EDB) is responsible for formulating and implementing education policies in Hong Kong. The bureau is headed by the Secretary for Education and oversees agencies including University Grants Committee and Student Finance Office. Hong Kong Free Press (HKFP) is a free, non-profit news website based in Hong Kong. It was co-founded in 2015 by Tom Grundy, who believed that the territory's press freedom was in decline, to provide an alternative to the dominant English-language news source, the ''South China Morning Post'', and to cover the pro-democracy movement. The 2016 Election Committee subsector elections were held on 11 December 2016 for 1,034 of the 1,200 members of the Election Committee (EC) which is responsible for electing the Chief Executive of Hong Kong (CE) in the 2017 election. Ip Kin-yuen (, born 1961) is a former member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong for Education constituency and a chief executive for Hong Kong Professional Teachers' Union. The Education functional constituency, formerly called Teaching from 1985 to 1995, is a functional constituency in the elections for the Legislative Council of Hong Kong. It was one of the 12 functional constituency seats created for the 1985 Legislative Council election.
