Christine Boumeester
Christine Boumeester (1904-1971) was a Dutch-French Abstract art, abstract and Surrealism, surrealist painter. Biography Boumeester was born in Batavia, Dutch East Indies, Batavia, then the capital of Dutch colonial Indonesia. Relocating to Europe as a young adult, Boumeester studied at Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, École des Beaux Arts at the Hague from 1922-1924. In 1935, she moved to Paris and enrolled at Académie de la Grande Chaumière. It was there that Boumeester met and soon married the painter Henri Goetz. Boumeester's first solo exhibition in France took place at the Galerie Bonaparte. Her work was often exhibited in group shows alongside artists like Hans Hartung, Kandinsky, and Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, Viera da Silva. Abstract Art
Abstract art uses visual language of shape, form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world. Western art had been, from the Renaissance up to the middle of the 19th century, underpinned by the logic of perspective and an attempt to reproduce an illusion of visible reality. By the end of the 19th century many artists felt a need to create a new kind of art which would encompass the fundamental changes taking place in technology, science and philosophy. Francis Picabia (: born Francis-Marie Martinez de Picabia; 22January 1879 – 30November 1953) was a French avant-garde painter, poet and typographist. Christian Dotremont
Christian Dotremont, (; 12 December 1922 – 20 August 1979), was a Belgian painter and poet who was born in Tervuren, Belgium. He was a founding member of the Revolutionary Surrealist Group (1946) and he also founded COBRA together with Danish artist Asger Jorn. In this capacity he was responsible for bringing Henri Lefebvre's ''Critique de la vie quotidienne'' (1946) to the group's attention. He later became well known for his painted poems (French: ''Peinture mots''), which he called logograms. Raoul Ubac
Raoul Ubac (31 August 1910, Cologne – 22 March 1985, Dieudonne, Oise) was a French painter, sculptor, photographer and engraver. He had various and irregular artistic training and travelled in Europe between 1928 and 1934. He worked mostly on photography between 1934 and 1942, embraced Surrealism in Paris and took photos for the magazine ''Minotaure''. In 1937, he made ''Tete du Mannequin'', a photograph taken of a mannequin (made by André Masson) consisting of everyday objects. Another of his works include the photograph 'La Conciliabule'. Maria Helena Vieira Da Silva
Maria Helena Vieira da Silva (13 June 1908 – 6 March 1992) was a Portuguese abstract painter. She was considered a leading member of the European abstract expressionism movement known as Art Informel. Her works feature complex interiors and city views using lines that explore space and perspective. She also worked in tapestry and stained glass. Life Vieira da Silva was born in Lisbon, Portugal. At an early age, she traveled around the world because her affluent father was a diplomat. Surrealism is a cultural movement that developed in Europe in the aftermath of World War I in which artists depicted unnerving, illogical scenes and developed techniques to allow the unconscious mind to express itself.
