Christie Whelan-Browne
Christine "Christie" Whelan Browne (born 6 August 1982) is an Australian performer who has worked extensively in musical theatre as an actress, dancer and singer. She has also appeared on television shows and in films. In March 2012, she married fellow performer, Rohan Browne. Early years Christie Whelan Browne was born as Christine Whelan on 6 August 1982 in Melbourne. She grew up in the suburb of Eltham, and attended St Helena Secondary College. Whelan performed in school musicals every year from Year 7. The musicals included, "''The King and I'' and doing everything from ''Fiddler on the Roof'' to ''Little Shop of Horrors'', as well as ''Grease''." She later reflected on her Year 12 school production, "I was choreographing and playing a part. It was the first time I realised this was something that came naturally to me. Rohan Browne (born ) is an Australian dancer, actor and singer. Career Browne's career started at age 18 in the original ''The Boy From Oz'' production. He went on to appear in over 20 musicals in Australia and internationally. Musicals include: ''Grease (musical), Grease'', "Wing" in ''Hot Shoe Shuffle'', ''Kiss Me, Kate, Kiss Me Kate'' (Green Room Award nomination for best featured ensemble member), ''Mame (musical), Mame'' and ''Follies''. ''Starting Here, Starting Now'' is a musical theatre, musical revue with lyrics by Richard Maltby Jr. and music by David Shire. With a cast of three and three musicians, the revue explores a variety of romantic relationships. Productions The revue was first produced at the Manhattan Theater Club in 1976 under the title ''Theater Songs by Maltby and Shire''. In March 1977, the show moved to the Barbarann Theater Restaurant in New York City, where it ran for 120 performances. The cast featured Loni Ackerman, Margery Cohen and George Lee Andrews. ''42nd Street'' is a 1980 stage musical with a book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, lyrics by Al Dubin and Johnny Mercer and music by Harry Warren. The 1980 Broadway production won the Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best Choreography and it became a long-running hit. The Adelaide Cabaret Festival is an annual arts festival featuring cabaret held in the South Australian capital of Adelaide. It has been held in June each year since 2001, with the exception of 2020 owing to the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia, when an online event was presented on Facebook.
