Christiansburg High School
Christiansburg High School is located at 100 Independence Blvd. in Christiansburg, Virginia in the County of Montgomery and is located just minutes from Virginia Tech and Radford University. The school opened in 1906 and had its first graduating class of three students in 1909. The school was named for the town in which it was built. The town of Christiansburg, the county seat of Montgomery County incorporated November 10, 1792 and was named after Colonel William Christian, one of the first justices. Colonel William Christian studied law with Patrick Henry and courted and married Henry's sister, Ann. The school also is a part of the region that sends students to SWVGS (Southwest Virginia Governor's School) in Pulaski County. Christiansburg (formerly Hans Meadows) is a town in Montgomery County, Virginia, United States. The population was 21,041 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Montgomery County. Christiansburg, Blacksburg and the city of Radford are the three principal municipalities of the Blacksburg–Christiansburg Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses those municipalities, all of Montgomery County, and three other counties. History European discovery, founding (1671–1792) In 1671, the New River – one of the world's oldest rivers – was discovered by early settlers of German, French, Scot-Irish and English descent. Along the river, there were several Native American encampments, and conflicts were common between those tribes and the early settlers. AA River Ridge District
The AA River Ridge District is a district in Region IV of the Virginia High School League. It is centered around the Roanoke Valley and New River Valley in Southwest Virginia. History The River Ridge District was formed for the 2003–2004 school year out of the AA Blue Ridge District in Region III. In the 2002–2003 school year, the student body of Group AAA Cave Spring High School in Roanoke County was split into two Group AA sized schools with the opening of Hidden Valley High School. These two new schools gave the Blue Ridge District eleven members that year except in football, where Cave Spring remained in AAA and Hidden Valley played a limited, solely non-district schedule.
