Christian S. Oftedal
Christian Stephansen Oftedal (14 January 1907 – 11 July 1955) was a Norwegian politician for the Liberal Party. He is the son of Lars Oftedal. He was born in Stavanger. He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from the Market towns of Vest-Agder and Rogaland counties in 1945, but was not re-elected in 1949. He was also a member of the executive committee of Stavanger municipality council in the period 1937–1940. He was editor-in-chief of ''Stavanger Aftenblad'' from 1932 to 1940 and 1945 to 1955. Lars Oftedal
Lars Oftedal (3 January 1877 – 19 April 1932) was a Norwegian attorney and newspaper editor. Biography Oftedal was born in Stavanger in Rogaland, Norway. He was the son of parish priest Lars Oftedal (1838–1900) and his wife Olava Mathilde Ohlsen (1839–1931). His father was the founding editor of ''Stavanger Aftenblad'' and also served as a member of the Storting. Oftedal attended Kongsgaard skole in Stavanger and took Cand. jur. in 1899. He was editor of ''Stavanger Aftenblad'' from 1900 to 1921. He served with the Stavanger city council from 1907 until 1921. From 1916 to 1918 he was deputy to the Storting and was elected as a permanent representative in 1922 and 1925. He was Minister of Social Affairs 1921-1922 and 1924-1926 in Prime Minister Mowinckel's First Cabinet. The Liberal Party ( no, Venstre, lit=Left, V; se, Gurutbellodat) is a centrist political party in Norway. It was founded in 1884 and it is the oldest political party in Norway. The Norwegian Nobel Committee ( no, Den norske Nobelkomité) selects the recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize each year on behalf of Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel's estate, based on instructions of Nobel's will. Five members are appointed by the Norwegian Parliament. In his will, Alfred Nobel tasked the parliament of Norway with selecting the winners of the Nobel Peace Prize. At the time, Norway and Sweden were in a loose personal union. Despite its members being appointed by Parliament, the committee is a private body tasked with awarding a private prize.
