Christian Reformists
The Christian Reformists (''Cristiano Riformisti'', CR) are a Christian-democratic faction within New Centre-Right (NCD), a political party in Italy. The group emerged as a faction within National Alliance (AN), a conservative party. Its founders included Antonio Mazzochi (ex- DC), Erder Mazzocchi (ex-DC) and Pietro Armani (ex- PRI). The main goal of CR was the admission of the party into the European People's Party (EPP). In March 2009 the CR, along with the whole AN, joined The People of Freedom (PdL). In September 2008 the Christian-Social European Union, a Christian-democratic association led by Gennaro Castiello (a former member of the Christian Democratic Refoundation) which had joined the PdL in April 2008, merged into the Christian Reformists, opening the way to a 40,000 members-strong "Catholic bloc". Christian Democracy
Christian democracy (sometimes named Centrist democracy) is a political ideology that emerged in 19th-century Europe under the influence of Catholic social teaching and neo-Calvinism. It was conceived as a combination of modern democratic ideas and traditional Christian values, incorporating social justice and the social teachings espoused by the Catholic, Lutheran, Reformed, Pentecostal, and other denominational traditions of Christianity in various parts of the world. After World War II, Catholic and Protestant movements of neo-scholasticism and the Social Gospel shaped Christian democracy. European People's Party
The European People's Party (EPP) is a European political party with Christian-democratic, conservative, and liberal-conservative member parties. A transnational organisation, it is composed of other political parties. Founded by primarily Christian-democratic parties in 1976, it has since broadened its membership to include liberal-conservative parties and parties with other centre-right political perspectives. On 31 May 2022, the party elected as its President Manfred Weber, who was also EPP's '' Spitzenkandidat'' in 2019. The EPP has been the largest party in the European Parliament since 1999 and in the European Council since 2002. It is also the largest party in the current European Commission. Popular Rebirth ( it, Rinascita Popolare, RP) is a minor Christian-democratic political party in Italy, led by Publio Fiori, a former right-wing Christian Democrat and, later, leading member of the National Alliance from 1994 to 2005. It was founded in October 2006 as Christian Democratic Refoundation (''Rifondazione DC'', RDC) from a split of the Christian Democracy for the Autonomies. Gennaro Castiello
Januarius ( ; la, Ianuarius; Neapolitan and it, Gennaro), also known as , was Bishop of Benevento and is a martyr and saint of the Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. While no contemporary sources on his life are preserved, later sources and legends claim that he died during the Great Persecution, which ended with Diocletian's retirement in 305. Januarius is the patron saint of Naples, where the faithful gather three times a year in Naples Cathedral to witness the liquefaction of what is claimed to be a sample of his blood kept in a sealed glass ampoule. The Italian Republican Party ( it, Partito Repubblicano Italiano, PRI) is a liberal and social-liberal political party in Italy. Founded in 1895, the PRI is the oldest political party still active in Italy. The PRI has old roots and a long history that began with a left-wing position, claiming descent from the political thought of Giuseppe Mazzini and Giuseppe Garibaldi. The early PRI was also known for its anti-clerical, anti-monarchist republican and later anti-fascist stances. New Centre-Right ( it, Nuovo Centrodestra, NCD) was a centre-right political party in Italy. The party was launched on 15 November 2013 by a group of dissidents of The People of Freedom (PdL) who opposed the party's transformation into Forza Italia (FI), which would take place the day after. The NCD leader was Angelino Alfano, who had been Silvio Berlusconi's protégé and national secretary of the PdL from 2011 to 2013.
