Christian Movement For A New Haiti
The Christian Movement for a New Haiti (''Mouvement Chrétien pour une Nouvelle Haïti'', Mochrenha) is a political party in Haiti. History The party was founded in 1991 by Evangelical Protestant churches. Mochrenha was registered officially as a political party on 25 January 1999, but only on 13 July 1999 was it recognized by the electoral authorities. The party gained three seats in the Chamber of Deputies at the 2000 elections. In the 2006 Haitian elections, presidential elections of 7 February 2006, its candidate Luc Mesadieu won 3.35% of the popular vote. Luc Mesadieu
Luc Mesadieu is a Haitian political figure and member of the political party New Christian Movement for a New Haiti (Mochrena). Mesadieu has been a political opponent of former Haitian president Jean-Bertrand Aristide. He has been attacked in his home in December 2003 by thugs associated with Aristide, among them Amiot Métayer. His assistant, Ramy Daran, was burned to death that day. Early life Mesadieu is a dentist by profession. He worked for Jean-Claude Duvalier as his personal dentist. Mesadieu is an Evangelical pastor with two churches in the city of Gonaives. Michel Martelly
Michel Joseph Martelly (; born 12 February 1961) is a Haitian musician and politician who was the President of Haiti from May 2011 until February 2016. He was sanctioned by the Canadian Government for his involvement in human rights violations and supporting criminal gangs on 17 November 2022. Martelly was one of Haiti's best-known musicians for over a decade, going by the stage name Sweet Micky. For business and musical reasons, Martelly has moved a number of times between the United States and Haiti. When travelling to the United States, Martelly mostly stays in Florida. After his presidency, Martelly returned to his former band and sang a carnival méringue entitled "Bal Bannan nan" (Give Her the Banana), as a mocking response to Liliane Pierre Paul, a famous Haitian female journalist in Port-au-Prince. ''Le Nouvelliste'' is a French-language daily newspaper printed in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and distributed throughout the country, particularly the capital and 18 of the country's major cities. 2015 Haitian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Haiti on 25 October 2015, alongside local elections and the second round of the legislative elections. Incumbent President Michel Martelly was constitutionally barred from running. As no candidate received a majority of the vote in the first round, a runoff was to be held on 27 December 2015. On 22 December the Conseil Electoral Provisoire (CEP) announced that the runoff has been postponed indefinitely. However, on 1 January 2016 President Michel Martelly announced that the runoff would be held on 17 January, but on 7 January the President changed the date to 24 January. On 20 January, Jude Célestin issued a statement that calls "whatever the person who will participate in this January 24 unoff is a traitor to the Nation". Port-au-Prince ( , ; ht, Pòtoprens ) is the capital and most populous city of Haiti. The city's population was estimated at 987,311 in 2015 with the metropolitan area estimated at a population of 2,618,894. The metropolitan area is defined by the IHSI as including the communes of Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Cite Soleil, Tabarre, Carrefour and Pétion-Ville. 2006 Haitian Elections
General elections were held in Haiti on 7 February 2006 to elect the replacements for the interim government of Gérard Latortue, which had been put in place after the 2004 Haiti rebellion.
