Christian Keyser Preus
Christian Keyser Preus (October 13, 1852 – May 28, 1921) was an American Lutheran minister who served as the second president of Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Career Preus was born in the Spring Prairie, Wisconsin, parsonage to Norwegian immigrants Herman Amberg Preus and Caroline (Linka) Keyser Preus.''Preus, Christian Keyser'' (Christian Cyclopedia. The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod) He enrolled in Luther College in 1865, but had to withdraw due to contracting typhoid fever. He resumed his studies in 1868 and graduated in 1873. He then attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, graduating in 1876. Preus was ordained that same year and served with his father at the historic Spring Prairie Lutheran Church. Winneshiek County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 20,070. The county seat is Decorah. History A largely rural and agricultural county, Winneshiek County has a rich cultural history from Czech, Slovak, English, Irish, German, Swiss, and Norwegian immigrants that have settled within its boundaries. The county was originally settled in 1848 in present-day Bloomfield Township (near Castalia, Iowa) and in Washington Township (near Fort Atkinson, Iowa). Decorah is a city in and the county seat of Winneshiek County, Iowa, United States. The population was 7,587 at the time of the 2020 census. Decorah is located at the intersection of State Highway 9 and U.S. Route 52, and is the largest community in Winneshiek County. History Decorah was the site of a Ho-Chunk village beginning ''circa'' 1840.
