Christian Heinrich Postel
Christian Heinrich Postel (11 October 1658 – 22 March 1705) was a German jurist, epic poet and opera libretto, librettist, who wrote 28 libretti for the Oper am Gänsemarkt in Hamburg: set by composers such as Johann Philipp Förtsch, Reinhard Keiser and Georg Philipp Telemann. His texts for a ''St John Passion'' were set by composers Christian Ritter, Johann Mattheson and Johann Sebastian Bach in their respective ''St John Passion structure, St John Passion''. Pontius Pilate (; grc-gre, Πόντιος Πιλᾶτος, ) was the fifth governor of the Roman province of Judaea, serving under Emperor Tiberius from 26/27 to 36/37 AD. Christian Friedrich Hunold
Christian Friedrich Hunold (born 29 September 1680 in Wandersleben near Gotha (town), Gotha, died 16 August 1721 in Halle (Saale), Halle) was a German author who wrote under the pseudonym Menantes. Biography Hunold went to school in Arnstadt and continued in 1691 at the ''Gymnasium Illustre Augusteum'' in Weißenfels until 1698. From 1698 until winter 1699/1700 he studied law and languages at the University of Jena. His first novel, ''Die Verliebte und Galante Welt'' (Hamburg: Liebernickel, 1700), was an instant success. The publication of his novel ''Satyrischer Roman'' (Satyrical Novel) in 1706 caused a scandal. Hunold moved to Halle and held private seminars. The second part of ''Satyrischer Roman'' was published in Stade by Hinrich Brummer in 1710. Hunold continued his own studies and graduated in 1714 in law. Oratorio
An oratorio () is a large musical composition for orchestra, choir, and soloists. Like most operas, an oratorio includes the use of a choir, soloists, an instrumental ensemble, various distinguishable characters, and arias. Pascal Collasse
Pascal Collasse (or Colasse) (22 January 1649 (baptised) – 17 July 1709) was a French composer of the Baroque era. Born in Rheims, Collasse became a disciple of Jean-Baptiste Lully during the latter's domination of the French operatic stage. When Lully died in 1687 leaving his tragédie en musique ''Achille et Polyxène'' unfinished, Collasse completed the last four acts of the score. He went on to produce around a dozen operas and ballets, as well as sacred music, including settings of the ''Cantiques spirituels'' of Jean Racine. His plan to establish his own opera house in Lille ended in failure when the theatre burnt down. He dabbled in alchemy with even less success. His musical style is close to that of Lully. Jean-Baptiste Lully ( , , ; born Giovanni Battista Lulli, ; – 22 March 1687) was an Italian-born French composer, guitarist, violinist, and dancer who is considered a master of the French Baroque music style. Achille Et Polyxène
''Achille et Polyxène'' (''Achilles and Polyxena'') is a tragédie lyrique containing a prologue and five acts based on Virgil's ''Aeneid'' with a French libretto by Jean Galbert de Campistron. The opera's overture and first act were composed by Jean-Baptiste Lully, who died from a conducting injury before he could complete the score. The prologue and the remaining acts are the work of his pupil Pascal Collasse who finished the work, eight months after Lully's death on 22 March 1687. Acts 1 and 4 of the ballet was created by Louis Lestang, and the ballet to the prologue and acts 2 and 3 were by Louis-Guillaume Pécour. Jean Galbert De Campistron
Jean Galbert de Campistron (3 August 1656 – 11 May 1723) was a French dramatist. Biography Campistron was born in Toulouse, France to a noble family. At the age of seventeen he was wounded in a duel and sent to Paris. Here he became an ardent disciple of Racine. He secured the patronage of the influential duchesse de Bouillon by dedicating ''Arminius'' to her, and in 1685 he scored his first success with ''Andronic'', which disguised under other names the tragic story of Don Carlos and Elizabeth of France. The piece made a great sensation, but Campistron's treatment is weak, and he failed to avail himself of the possibilities inherent in his subject.
