Christian Frederik Hansen (officer)
Christian Frederik Hansen (29 November 1788 – 22 June 1873), was a Danish military officer who served as Minister of Defence. Early life and career Christian Frederik Hansen was born in Helsingør as the son of colonel Hans Chr. Hansen. Political offices He served as Minister of Defence in the second cabinet of Moltke from 16 November 1848 to 13 July 1851. He later served as Minister of Degence in the cabinet of Bluhme from 27 January 1852 to 21 April 1853, then in the cabinet of Ørsted from 21 April 1853 to 12 December 1854 and finally in the second cabinet of Bluhme 11 July 1864 to 6 November 1865. Awards He was appointed to general ''à la suite'' at the end of his political career. Helsingør
Helsingør ( , ; sv, Helsingör), classically known in English as Elsinore ( ), is a city in eastern Denmark. Helsingør Municipality had a population of 62,686 on 1 January 2018. Helsingør and Helsingborg in Sweden together form the northern reaches of the Øresund Region, centered on Copenhagen and Malmö. The HH Ferry route connects Helsingør with Helsingborg, 4 km (2.5 miles) across the Øresund. À la suite (, ''in the entourage f') was a military title given to those who were allotted to the army or a particular unit for honour's sake, and entitled to wear a regimental uniform but otherwise had no official position. In Prussia, these were: *À la suite of the army - for example granted to such officers, who came to command non-Prussian battalions at certain higher ranks, to guarantee their advancement in the Prussian army *À la suite of regiments - for example princes and generals as a special honour, or officers who commanded non-Prussian battalions. Order Of The Elephant
The Order of the Elephant ( da, Elefantordenen) is a Danish order of chivalry and is Denmark's highest-ranked honour. It has origins in the 15th century, but has officially existed since 1693, and since the establishment of constitutional monarchy in 1849, is now almost exclusively used to honour royalty and heads of state. History A Danish religious confraternity called the Fellowship of the Mother of God, limited to about fifty members of the Danish aristocracy, was founded during the reign of Christian I during the 15th century. The badge of the confraternity showed the Virgin Mary holding her Son within a crescent moon and surrounded with the rays of the sun, and was hung from a collar of links in the form of elephants much like the present collar of the Order.
