Christian Franzen (photographer)
Christian Franzen Nissen (1864–1923) was a Danish photographer and diplomat largely active in Spain. Specialised in portrait photography and often employed by the Spanish Royal Family, he reportedly self-styled as "Photographer of Kings and King of Photographers". Biography He was born in 1864. Once settled in Spain, he opened a photographic studio at the Madrid's . Very appreciated by Queen Mother Maria Christina, he was able to take many full-body portraits of the Spanish Royal Family and the aristocracy. He became consul of Denmark in 1910. He was, along with Kaulak, one of the best known portrait photographers in Spain by the turn of the 20th century. He died in 1923. ''ABC'' () is a Spanish national daily newspaper. It is the second largest general-interest newspaper in Spain, number one in Madrid, and the oldest newspaper still operating in Madrid. Maria Christina Henriette Desideria Felicitas Raineria of Austria ( es, María Cristina de Habsburgo-Lorena; 21 July 1858 – 6 February 1929) was the second queen consort of Alfonso XII of Spain. She was queen regent during the vacancy of the throne between her husband's death in November 1885 and the birth of their son Alfonso XIII in May 1886, and subsequently also until the coming of age of the latter in May 1902. Antonio Cánovas del Castillo y Vallejo, better known as Kaulak (22 December 1862, Madrid – 13 September 1933, Madrid) was a Spanish photographer, art critic, editor and amateur painter. His uncle was the assassinated Prime Minister, Antonio Cánovas del Castillo, hence his use of a pseudonym; the meaning of which is unexplained, although the word appears to be of Basque language, Basque origin. Biography He was originally a lawyer, and held several public offices before deciding to devote himself to photography. This included high positions in the ministries of Interior and Justice, as well as holding a seat in the Cortes Generales, Cortes (legislature), representing the constituency of Cieza, Murcia, Cieza, in the early 1890s. Benito Pérez Galdós (May 10, 1843 – January 4, 1920) was a Spanish Spanish Realist literature, realist novelist. He was the leading literary figure in 19th-century Spain, and some scholars consider him second only to Miguel de Cervantes in stature as a Spanish novelist. Pérez Galdós was a prolific writer, publishing 31 novels, 46 ''Episodios Nacionales'' (''National Episodes''), 23 plays, and the equivalent of 20 volumes of shorter fiction, journalism and other writings. Alfonso, Prince Of Asturias (1907–1938)
Alfonso, Prince of Asturias (10 May 1907 – 6 September 1938), was heir apparent to the throne of Spain from birth until the abolition of the monarchy in 1931. He renounced his rights to the defunct throne in 1933. Alfonso was the eldest son of King Alfonso XIII of Spain and his wife Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg. Alfonso's renunciation of his rights as heir to the Spanish throne in order to marry Cuban commoner Edelmira Sampedro caused controversy at the time. A similar situation would take place three years later in Britain with his second cousin Edward VIII, who would abdicate as King of the United Kingdom to wed American divorcee Wallis Simpson. Victoria Eugenie Julia Ena of Battenberg (24 October 1887 – 15 April 1969) was Queen of Spain as the wife of King Alfonso XIII from their marriage on 31 May 1906 until 14 April 1931, when the Spanish Second Republic was proclaimed.
