The Christian Democratic Front ( pt, Frente Democrática Cristã) is a small political party in São Tomé and Príncipe. It failed to win any seats in the National Assembly of São Tomé and Príncipe, National Assembly following São Tomé and Príncipe legislative election, 2006, elections held on 26 March 2006. The party supported Fradique de Menezes in the 30 July 2006 São Tomé and Príncipe presidential election, 2006, presidential election. He was re-elected with 60.58% of the vote. The discovery of a coup plot against Menezes, allegedly involving Christian Democratic Front leader Arlecio Costa, was announced on 12 February 2009. Costa and more than 30 others were arrested. Christian Democracy
Christian democracy (sometimes named Centrist democracy) is a political ideology that emerged in 19th-century Europe under the influence of Catholic social teaching and neo-Calvinism. Fradique Bandeira Melo de Menezes (born March 21, 1942) is a São Toméan politician who was the third president of São Tomé and Príncipe from 2001 to 2011. Early life Menezes was born on the then Portuguese colony of São Tomé in 1942, the son of a Portuguese man and a local woman. He attended high school in Portugal. He then studied at the Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada in Lisbon, Portugal and Free University of Brussels. Career Menezes is a businessman. He was Foreign Minister of São Tome and Príncipe from 1986 until 1987. Christians () are people who follow or adhere to Christianity, a monotheistic Abrahamic religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
