Baptism
Baptism (from grc-x-koine, βάπτισμα, váptisma) is a form of ritual purification—a characteristic of many religions throughout time and geography. In Christianity, it is a Christian sacrament of initiation and adoption, almost invariably with the use of water. It may be performed by sprinkling or pouring water on the head, or by immersing in water either partially or completely, traditionally three times, once for each person of the Trinity. The synoptic gospels recount that John the Baptist baptised Jesus. Baptism is considered a sacrament in most churches, and as an ordinance in others. Baptism according to the Trinitarian formula, which is done in most mainstream Christian denominations, is seen as being a basis for Christian ecumenism, the concept of unity amongst Christians. Christen Christensen (17 September 1904 in Oslo – 2 June 1969 in Oslo) was a Norwegian pair skater. He represented Oslo Skøiteklub. His pairs partner was Randi Bakke. They are the 1933 World bronze medalists. They finished fifth at the 1923 World Figure Skating Championships and the 1934 World Figure Skating Championships. Christen Mikkelsen Kold
Christen Mikkelsen Kold (sometimes spelled Kristen or Cristen; 29 March 1816 — 6 April 1870) was a Danish teacher, notable for creating the Danish Folk high school system, for non-degree education of adults. Kold was born in Thisted, Jutland. Unsatisfied with the education system of Denmark at the time, he founded a school in Ryslinge in 1851, which later became a model for the folk high-school system. His work has to be seen in context with that of N. F. S. Grundtvig. He associated with Morten Eskesen. Christen Købke
Christen Schiellerup Købke (26 May 1810 – 7 February 1848) was a Danish painter, and one of the best known artists from the Golden Age of Danish Painting. Childhood and early training He was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was one of 11 children born to Peter Berend Købke (1771-1843) and Cecilie Margrethe Petersen (1778-1867). In 1815 the family moved to Kastellet, a military fortification area in Copenhagen, where his father was head baker. At the age of 11 he suffered from a bout of rheumatic fever. He made many drawings during his convalescence and decided that he would become an artist. In 1822 at 12 years of age he started his studies at Royal Danish Academy of Art (''Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi''). Christen Jensen
Christen Jensen (1881–1961) was an American educator who twice served as interim president of Brigham Young University (BYU). The two terms were 1939-1940 while Franklin S. Harris was doing work in Iran and then in Nov. 1949-Feb. 1951 between the presidencies of Howard S. McDonald and Ernest L. Wilkinson. Jensen was born in Salt Lake City to Christen Jensen Sr. and his wife Nel Sina Johnsen, both of whom were immigrants from Denmark. Jensen initially went through the Normal school of the University of Utah, and then was a teacher in such southern Salt Lake County towns as Midvale and Riverton as well as Pleasant Green in western Salt Lake County. While teaching in Midvale Jensen met another teacher there named Juliaetta Bateman. They had a common interest in music. They married on August 17, 1904. Christen Nielsen Holberg
Christen Nielsen Holberg (a.k.a. Christian Holberg, 1625 – 1686) was an officer in the Norwegian Army. He was also the father of Ludvig Holberg. In 1653 he was hired as a lieutenant to serve with Bergenhusiske Regiment both in Bergenhus len and on Bergenhus Fortress In 1659 he was appointed commander of Sundfjordske Kompani of Bergenhusiske Regiment with the rank of captain. During the Bjelke War he and his company participated in the defence of Halden against the Swedes. On August 2, 1665 he participated in the Battle of Vågen as a Major. In 1672 he was a lieutenant colonel in the Sundfjordske Kompani. In 1675 he was a member of the regimental staff and the commander of Sognske Kompani. Christen Heiberg (28 November 1799 – 18 March 1872) was a Norwegian surgeon and professor. Biography Heiberg was born in Bergen, Norway. He was the son of Christopher Heiberg (1767–1811) and Margrethe Heide Fritzner (1772–1816). He attended Bergen Cathedral School graduating in 1817. He studied at the Royal Frederick University (now University of Oslo) from which he graduated in 1822. He followed with a study trip to Copenhagen from 1823-24. He was physician at Rikshospitalet from 1826. His thesis from 1830 was a treatment of eye surgery. After further study in Germany and Paris during 1835, he was appointed professor at the University of Christiania from 1836. Christen Andreas Fonnesbech
Christen Andreas Fonnesbech (7 July 1817 – 17 May 1880) was a Danish lawyer, landowner and politician. He was Council President of Denmark from 1874 to 1875. Biography Fonnesbech was born in Copenhagen, where his father was a dressmaker. He became a student in 1835 and earned a cand.jur. degree from the University of Copenhagen in 1840. He began his tenure and became city clerk in Hillerød. In 1843 he bought the estate Vesterbygård at Holbæk on Zealand. In 1863 he acted as president of the County Council in Odense. Christen Renee Drew (born February 7, 1987) is a former news reporter, television producer, assignment editor and anchor for the ABC affiliate WSIL channel 3 in Carterville, Illinois. Christen Dalsgaard (30 October 1824 – 11 February 1907) was a Danish painter, a late student of Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg. Biography Early life and education Christen Dalsgaard was born on 30 October 1824. He was the son of the owner of the estate, Krabbesholm Manor, located near Skive in Jutland. He showed early signs of artistic talent, and received training as a craft painter. In the spring of 1841 Niels Rademacher, a visiting landscape painter, encouraged the young artist and convinced his parents of their son's talent.
