Christa Deguchi
Christa Deguchi ( 出口 クリスタ ''Deguchi Christa,'' born 29 October 1995) is a Canadian judoka. Switch to representing Canada In 2017, Deguchi switched to representing Canada from where she was born, Japan. Deguchi's dad is from Canada and this allowed her to compete for the country. In 2012, Deguchi was approached to represent Canada, before she competed for Japan but she refused. Realizing her best bet to make the Olympics would be competing for Canada, Deguchi eventually agreed to represent Canada. Career Deguchi participated at the 2018 World Judo Championships, winning a bronze medal. This made her the first female judoka representing Canada to win a World Judo Championships medal. She won her first gold medal in the 2019 world championship In 2021, she won the gold medal in her event at the 2021 Judo Grand Slam Antalya held in Antalya, Turkey. Judo competitions at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, were held from 1 to 3 August 2022. This was the fifth time the sport has been on the program, since it was introduced as a demonstration sport in 1986, and made official at the next edition in 1990. Its second appearance within England specifically, spread across fourteen weight categories.Unlike other international competitions where each country can only enter one athlete per weight. Each participating country can enter up to 2 participants per weight.The sport will give two bronze medals,one for the winner from repechage and another for the athlete who won the third place event. International Judo Federation
The International Judo Federation (IJF) was founded in July 1951. The IJF was originally composed of judo federations from Europe and Argentina. Countries from four continents were affiliated over the next ten years. Today the IJF has 200 National Federations on all continents. There are over 20 million people around the globe who practice judo, according to the IJF. History Since 2009, IJF has organized yearly World Championships and the World Judo Tour consisting of five Grand Prix, four Grand Slams, a master tournament, and a Continental open tournament. The IJF initially named Russian President Vladimir Putin its honorary president and IJF Ambassador in 2008.
