Christ Episcopal Church (Tuscaloosa, Alabama)
Christ Episcopal Church is a historic church building in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It was organized on January 7, 1828, by thirteen men who elected the first vestry that night. In the first year, the vestry hired the architect William Nichols to design the building and oversee its construction. The building was added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage on July 28, 1975. History The lot was purchased from the Masons for $150.00, and the cost of the building was $1,700.00. Twenty-five pews were placed in the church and were sold for bids ranging from $75 to $150 or were rented for $8 a year. This was the only source of income at the time. The building was completed, and on April 12, 1831, the University of Alabama held charter ceremonies here. Additions and changes to the church building have taken place over the years: in 1882 the building was enlarged and remodeled from Greek Revival to Gothic Revival style, and the bell tower was added. The Episcopal Diocese of Easton is a diocese of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America that comprises the nine counties that make up the Eastern Shore of Maryland. It is in Province 3 of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America, Province III (the Mid-Atlantic States, Middle Atlantic region) and was created as a split from the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland, Diocese of Maryland in 1868. Christ Church, St. Peter's Parish is an historic Episcopal church located in Easton, Talbot County, Maryland U.S.A. History Christ Church was for many years the parish church of St. Peter's Parish, founded at some time before 1687, as one of the List of original 30 Anglican parishes in the Province of Maryland. The parish initially "begins at John Judwins Branch and extends to Oxford Town" but the boundaries were revised to include Third Haven Hundred, Bolingbroke Hundred and part of Tuckahoe Hundred" around 1714, since a church had been erected in Oxford, Maryland by 1695. The original parish church was at White Marsh near Hambleton, which was built around 1666 but destroyed by a brush fire during a cleanup in 1897. Christ Episcopal Church is a historic Episcopal church located at Chaptico, St. Mary's County, Maryland, United States. It was constructed in 1736 of Flemish bond brick construction with glazed headers, 60 feet long and 40 feet wide, with an original semicircular brick apse. In 1913, a three-story brick tower with octagonal belfry and spire was added to the west end of the church. The building was constructed under the supervision of Philip Key, vestryman, who was the great-grandfather of Francis Scott Key. The building was heavily damaged on July 30, 1814, during the War of 1812, when an admiral of the British fleet came ashore and took possession of the village of Chaptico. Surrounding the church is a cemetery with 18th, 19th, and 20th century markers, including a vault for the Key family. Christ Episcopal Church and Cemetery is an historic Episcopal church and cemetery located at Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland U.S.A. History Christ Church is the parish church of Great Choptank Parish, founded in 1692 as one of the List of original 30 Anglican parishes in the Province of Maryland. The church structure, designed by noted Baltimore architect Charles E. Cassell and built between 1883 and 1884, is a large Gothic Revival stone structure of green serpentinite stone on a cruciform plan. Accokeek (), "at the edge of the hill" in Algonquin, is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The CDP is located on the Potomac River, borders Charles County and is approximately 17 miles from Washington. It is a part of the Washington metropolitan area. The population of the CDP, as of the 2020 United States Census was 13,927.
