The Natural Law Party of Canada (NLPC) was the Canadian branch of the international Natural Law Party founded in 1992 by a group of educators, business leaders, and lawyers who practised Transcendental Meditation. Description and history The magician Doug Henning was senior vice president of NLPC, and ran as the party's candidate for the former Toronto riding of Rosedale in the 1993 federal election, finishing sixth out of ten candidates. The NLPC supported federal funding for further research in the technique of yogic flying, a part of the TM-Sidhi program, as a tool for achieving world peace. The NLPC platform maintained that once it took over the government, Canada's crime, unemployment, and deficit would disappear. Reg Alcock
Reginald B. Alcock, (April 16, 1948 – October 14, 2011) was a Canadian politician. He represented the riding of Winnipeg South in the House of Commons of Canada from 1993 to 2006 and was a cabinet minister in the government of Prime Minister Paul Martin. Alcock was a member of the Liberal Party of Canada. Early life and career Alcock was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Simon Fraser University and a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University. He was the director of Manitoba Child and Family Services from 1983 to 1985 and in this capacity spearheaded an effort to rewrite the province's child protection legislation. As a result of his efforts, Manitoba became the first province in Canada to introduce official protocols to deal with instances of child sex abuse. Winnipeg South (french: Winnipeg-Sud) is a Canadian federal electoral district in Manitoba, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1979, and since 1988. It covers the southernmost part of the city of Winnipeg. History The electoral district was created in 1914 from parts of Winnipeg, Provencher and Macdonald riding and first contested at the 1917 election. In 1976, it was abolished when it was redistributed into the ridings of Winnipeg—Assiniboine, and Winnipeg—Fort Garry. David Iftody (June 15, 1956 – February 5, 2001) was a Romanian Canadian politician. He served in the House of Commons of Canada from 1993 to 2000 as a member of the Liberal Party of Canada, representing the Manitoba riding of Provencher. Early life and career Iftody was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, with family roots in Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba. He worked at the Manitoba Youth Care Centre from 1977 to 1982, and subsequently received Bachelor of Social Work (1985) and Master of Public Administration (1987) degrees from the University of Manitoba.
