Chris Velan
Chris Velan is a Montreal-based singer-songwriter and guitarist. Career While in college, he studied law. After passing the bar, he traveled to West Africa where he was the music producer of a documentary film about a group of refugee musicians from Sierra Leone. In 2003 Velan returned from West Africa, releasing his debut solo album ''It's Not What You Think'', which incorporated a mix of his old and new influences ranging from folk, pop and rock to world music and reggae. Live, Velan uses a loop pedal which thickens and layers the music, as he performs live as a one-man band. His last album ''Solidago'' was released on NewSong Recordings. Animal Liberation Orchestra (also known casually as ALO) is a California rock band currently signed to Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records label. They have released four full-length albums for Brushfire, as well as a number of prior independent releases including a film soundtrack. Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars
Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars (also called Refugee All Stars) is a band from Sierra Leone which was formed by a group of refugees displaced to Guinea during the Sierra Leone Civil War. Since their return to Freetown in 2004, the band has toured extensively to raise awareness for humanitarian causes. Their story is documented in the 2005 documentary film '' Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars''. Their debut album, '' Living Like a Refugee'', was released on the label Anti in Europe on September 25, 2006 and in the US on September, 26 2006. The Mod Club Theatre (commonly called Mod Club) was an entertainment venue in Toronto that operated from 2002 to 2020. Its address was 722 College Street, which is in the city's Little Italy neighbourhood. Founded by Platinum Blonde frontman Mark Holmes and fellow English-expat Bobbi Guy, the venue hosted live performances and DJ nights. Overview Mod Club Theatre had a 618 person capacity and a stage that was 24 feet wide x 18 feet deep. Its interior was accented with murals featuring images of 1960s mod subculture. Johnny Clegg (musician)
Jonathan Paul Clegg, (7 June 195316 July 2019) was a South African musician, singer-songwriter, dancer, anthropologist and anti-apartheid activist, some of whose work was in musicology focused on the music of indigenous South African peoples. His band Juluka began as a duo with Sipho Mchunu, and was the first group in the South African apartheid-era with a white man and a black man. The pair performed and recorded, later with an expanded lineup. In 1986 Clegg founded the band Savuka, and also recorded as a solo act, occasionally reuniting with his earlier band partners. Brett Dennen
Brett Michael Dennen (born October 28, 1979) is an American folk/pop singer-songwriter from Central California. His seventh studio album, ''See the World'' was released in July 2021. Early life Dennen grew up in Central Valley, California in a small farm town; he was homeschooled. He spent much of his time learning to play music. After becoming proficient in the guitar, he started to write his own songs. Dennen learned to play guitar while attending Camp Jack Hazard, a residential summer camp in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. His camp counselors played the music of Neil Young, John Denver, and Joni Mitchell, the same music that his parents listened to. As an adolescent, he worked there as a counselor.
