He has created cover images for works by many of the most famous authors in science fiction, including since 1998 the some of book covers for Orion Publishing's SF Masterworks series. Non SF authors whose work he has provided covers for include Jeffrey Archer, Frederick Forsyth, Jackie Collins, Claire Francis, Jerzy Kosiński, Stephen Leather, Wilbur Smith, Terence Strong, Alastair Reynolds, Joseph Heller, and Colin Forbes. A star is an astronomical object comprising a luminous spheroid of plasma held together by its gravity. The nearest star to Earth is the Sun. Peter Elson
Peter Elson (13 January 1947 – March 1998) was an English science fiction illustrator whose work appeared on the covers of numerous science fiction paperback novels, as well as in the Terran Trade Authority series of illustrated books. Biography Elson, whose illustrations often placed detailed, brightly liveried spacecraft against vividly coloured backgrounds, influenced an entire generation of science fiction illustrators and concept artists. The look of the PC game ''Homeworld'' was heavily influenced by Elson's illustrations of the '70s and '80s, according to artists who worked on the title (he is listed in the Special Thanks section of the game's manual and has a character, Captain Elson, named after him). Elson was originally slated to create the game's box art, but at the last moment was pre-empted by the publisher's decision to use a 3D rendered scene. Pentangle (band)
Pentangle are a British folk band, formed in London in 1967. The original band was active in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and a later version has been active since the early 1980s. The original line-up, which was unchanged throughout the band's first incarnation (1967–1973), was Jacqui McShee (vocals); John Renbourn (vocals and guitar); Bert Jansch (vocals and guitar); Danny Thompson (double bass); and Terry Cox (drums). The name ''Pentangle'' was chosen to represent the five members of the band, and is also the device on Sir Gawain's shield in the Middle English poem ''Sir Gawain and the Green Knight'', which held a fascination for Renbourn. In 2007, the original members of the band were reunited to receive a Lifetime Achievement award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and to record a short concert that was broadcast on BBC radio. ''Never Too Late'' is the fourteenth studio album by English rock band Status Quo, coproduced by the group and John Eden. Released on 13 March 1981, it had been recorded at the same sessions – at Windmill Lane Studios, Dublin – as its predecessor ''Just Supposin'''. It reached number 2 in the UK Albums Chart. Only one single was released from the album: a cover of 'Something 'Bout You Baby I Like' (previously recorded by Tom Jones, and Glen Campbell with Rita Coolidge), backed with 'Enough Is Enough'. This was promoted with a music video directed by Godley and Creme. Towards the end of 1981, a third single from ''Just Supposin was issued. ''Just Supposin is the thirteenth album by Status Quo. Co-produced by the group and John Eden, it was recorded at Windmill Lane Studios, Dublin. Released on 17 October 1980, it entered the UK albums chart at number 4. Three tracks were issued as singles the same year, "What You're Proposing", and a double A-side, "Lies"/"Don't Drive My Car". At the end of 1981 an edited version of another track, the uncharacteristic ballad "Rock 'n' Roll", appeared as a single after the release of Quo's subsequent album '' Never Too Late''. It was a prolific recording session, which included enough material for ''Never Too Late'', released only five months later. Status Quo are a British rock band that formed in 1962. The group originated in London as The Scorpions and was founded by Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster while they were still schoolboys. After a number of lineup changes, which included the introduction of Rick Parfitt in 1967, the band became The Status Quo in 1967 and Status Quo in 1969. As of 2022, the group have been active for 60 consecutive years (despite announcing a breakup in 1984, they would play Live Aid the following year and resume normal activities in 1986). ''The News'' is an album by the Andrew Cyrille Quartet recorded in August 2019 and released on ECM in 2021. The quartet features guitarist Bill Frisell, David Virelles on synthesizer and piano, and bassist Ben Street—the same lineup as 2016's ''The Declaration of Musical Independence'' with the exception of Virelles, a last-minute replacement for Richard Teitelbaum, who was suffering from health problems at the time of the recording session, and who died in 2020. Background Cyrille had previously recorded "With You in Mind" for ''Low Blue Flame'' with Greg Osby, and for ''Us Free: Fish Stories'' with Henry Grimes, and Bill McHenry. The Allman Brothers Band was an American rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1969 by brothers Duane Allman (founder, slide guitar and lead guitar) and Gregg Allman (vocals, keyboards, songwriting), as well as Dickey Betts (lead guitar, vocals, songwriting), Berry Oakley (bass), Butch Trucks (drums), and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson (drums). Subsequently based in Macon, Georgia, they incorporated elements of blues, jazz, and country music, and their live shows featured jam band-style improvisation and instrumentals. ''Penguin'' is the seventh studio album by British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac, released on March 1, 1973. It was the first Fleetwood Mac album after the departure of Danny Kirwan, the first to feature Bob Weston (guitarist), Bob Weston and the only one to feature Dave Walker. The penguin is the band mascot favoured by John McVie. His fascination with the birds originated when he lived near London Zoo during the early days of his marriage to Christine McVie. He was a member of the Zoological Society of London, Zoological Society and would spend hours at the zoo studying and watching the penguins.
