Chris Hayes (jockey)
Chris Hayes (born 11 August 1987) in County Limerick is an Irish jockey who competes in Flat racing. Hayes began his career riding in pony racing and went to the RACE training school. He joined the stable of Kevin Prendergast as an apprentice jockey in 2004 and was Irish champion apprentice in 2005, 2006 and 2007. In 2017 he became first jockey to Fozzie Stack, alongside his role as Prendergast's stable jockey. Irish 2,000 Guineas
The Irish 2,000 Guineas is a Group 1 flat horse race in Ireland open to three-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies. It is run at the Curragh over a distance of 1 mile (1,609 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in May. History The event was established in 1921, a year before the launch of the Irish 1,000 Guineas. The inaugural running was won by Soldennis. It is Ireland's equivalent of the 2,000 Guineas, and in recent years it has taken place three weeks after that race. The field usually includes horses which previously contested the English version, and nine have achieved victory in both events. The first was Right Tack in 1969, and the most recent was Churchill in 2017. The leading horses from the Irish 2,000 Guineas often go on to compete in the following month's St. James's Palace Stakes. The Moyglare Stud Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in Ireland open to two-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run at the Curragh over a distance of 7 furlongs (1,408 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late August or early September. History The event is named after its long-term sponsor, Moyglare Stud. It was formerly contested over 6 furlongs, and for a period it held Group 3 status. It was promoted to Group 2 level in 1979, and to Group 1 in 1983. Its distance was extended to 7 furlongs in 1992. In 2014 it became part of the Irish Champions Weekend fixture. The Moyglare Stud Stakes became part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge series in 2009. Matron Stakes (Ireland)
The Matron Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in Ireland open to thoroughbred fillies and mares aged three years or older. It is run at Leopardstown over a distance of 1 mile (1,609 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in September. History The event was formerly known as the Gilltown Stud Stakes, and it used to be held at the Curragh. For a period it was classed at Group 3 level. It was renamed the Matron Stakes in the mid 1980s. The race was transferred to Leopardstown in 2002. It was promoted to Group 2 status in 2003, and to Group 1 in 2004. It is now sponsored by Coolmore Stud, and its full title includes the name of Justify, a Coolmore stallion. Awtaad
Awtaad (foaled 1 February 2013) is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse. He showed promise as a juvenile, winning a maiden race on his second racecourse appearance in October 2015. In the following spring he showed great improvement, winning the Madrid Handicap and the Tetrarch Stakes before recording a decisive victory over a strong field in the Irish 2000 Guineas. He was subsequently beaten in two Group 1 races before returning to winning form with a victory in the Boomerang Stakes. Background Awtaad is a brown horse with no white markings bred in Ireland by Shadwell Estate, the breeding company of his owner Hamdan Al Maktoum. Homeless Songs (foaled 24 February 2019) is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse. After showing promise as a two-year-old in 2021 when she won one race from three attempts, she improved in the following spring to take the Leopardstown 1,000 Guineas Trial Stakes and the Irish 1,000 Guineas. Background Homeless Songs is a bay filly with a small white star bred and owned by the Moyglare Stud. She was sent into training with Dermot Weld at the Curragh, County Kildare. She was from the sixth crop of foals sired by Frankel, an undefeated racehorse whose other progeny have included Cracksman, Adayar, Soul Stirring and Hurricane Lane. Homeless Songs' dam Joailliere showed some racing ability, winning two races including a Listed event in Germany. Sole Power
Sole Power (foaled 18 March 2007) is a British-bred, Irish-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. A specialist sprinter, he won twelve of his sixty-five races and competed in five different countries in a nine-year racing career. He is unique in being a dual winner of both the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Nunthorpe Stakes at York. His racing style is distinctive: he is usually restrained by his jockey for most of the race before producing a single burst of acceleration in the closing stages. He won one minor race as a two-year-old but after winning on his debut as a three-year-old he was unplaced in his next four races before recording a 100/1 upset victory in the 2010 Nunthorpe Stakes.
